Soccer smurf with orange shirt on his face

Hi, so there is a soccer (football) smurf from 2003 or 2004 that has an orange shirt pulled up over his head. Um... I don’t get it. It looks like he was blowing a huge bubble with bubble gum and it popped! I don’t really know much about soccer since it is not as popular here in the US. Would someone kindly explain why this smurf has a shirt pulled up like that? If it supposed to be funny, what is the joke?

It is a way of celebrating after scoring a goal... first used by Italian Juventus striker Fabrizio Ravanelli in the 1990's
