Looks like Schleich might stop producing smurfs once their license runs out in 2019. Decision is pending on how many smurfs they are selling and is it worthwile for them economically. Apparently, it's not enough that smurfs are mainly bought by collectors :(

Perhaps Bullyland could produce the smurfs again!

Then you should have waited a day to post. :p

I can't believe, if Schleich decides stopping producing smurfs ever, that no other will start making smurfs.
Maybe next year, once the new movie comes out, more people will start collecting smurfs and thus buying more...

Has anyone heard if Schleich renewed the license and if we’ll see any new smurfs in 2020? :-?
Postby The Smurf Collector » Sun Aug 11, 2019 12:17 am
So far I haven’t heard anything about Schleich not producing the smurfs or an alternative company having the rights to produce the figurines. It would be good to know either way.

The latest news is that there will be new Smurfs in the second semester of 2020, by Schleich (I only hope not Olympic Smurfs again...)

Thank you Paola :-D What time of year is the second semester?
cheers, Tommo

they were supposed to be released in July, with all the delays due the pandemic virus, they announced they pushed back the release in Septemeber, but I believe it will be later. It will also be better for sales, since they could take the wave of the Christmas gifts season.

I think the 2020 batch isn't great again, but I haven't really liked them since they became 'smurfs new style'. I much prefer the, to my feeling at least, more detailed versions they produced up until a couple of years ago. Image

Does anyone know if Schleich is still planning to release these Smurfs in September?

At my local shop in Italy where I use to buy them, they told so. I think September will be good for Germany release, in Italy they will arrive one month later I think.

With these ones being made in Romania, do we know if they have started making the previous years smurfs in Romania as well?
Postby Tommo » Thu Sep 03, 2020 10:16 pm
So there is a delay for the 20821 Smurf with Bottle. I wonder why this is? :-?

Perhaps the Smurf drank too much!

Or perhaps people feel this Smurf is not appropriate for children, by enouraging them to drink alcohol at a young age.

I picked six of them them up in a shop here in NL, the one with the bottle and Gargamel were delayed and are supposed to be coming in soon.

The interesting thing about the 2020 smurfs if that they don't have the Am Limes 69 marking. Just 'Made in Romania, Schleich, peyo, 2019' and the clock marking, plus an R in a circle.

That’s an interesting discovery.

I am looking forward to getting the 2020 more now that they are made in Romania and have different markings than ones made in the past.
