Hi guys,
remember when I told you about my dental problems?
http://www.forum.bluecavern.com/viewtopic.php?t=12436
I just returned from the dental center, only to learn that things got worst for me.
Since my denist, I went for b$%&% eighteen years, didn't send me to the ortho denist, I will have to pay app. 4,000 -6,000 € for a dental bracket plus two artificial teeth myself, which operate as a surrogate for the ones, I never had at all. I was told that insurance won't pay when you are older than eighteen.
At the very moment, I just don't know what to do now.
I already concider selling my cuties, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

I'm quite sure you will come to a conclusion. Sad to hear things running in that way...
But real life is more important as smurf colelcting
Certainly a lot of members here would be interested in your cuties me included but I would prefer to hear that you will continue collecting

Dom, why don`t you wait a little untill you have found a good job?
..or a better insurance?
( or a rich husband?)
I`m sure, you`ll regret it when you sell your smurfs
( however I do agree with Tine that teeth are more imortant then smurfs)

I really don't know how health insurance works in Germany, but I do know about it over here in the US (since it's my job
)
Can you not appeal the insurance's decision, Dom by having the dentist send in your dental records and pictures, proofing how important the braces are?

Dom maybe you can sell only a small part with the rare stuff of your collection and let the main stuff at your home ... I know it is very very difficult to do such a decision....
Anyway...sleep some nights and then rethink it

Well, if my jaw had a negative impact on my chin/face etc., insurance pays for an oral and maxillofacial operation. A dentist's operation , however, won't be paid by any insurance. I even had to pay for my x-rays earlier today (almost 74€).

That is really bad news Dom
Why on earth didn't the dentist say something all those years ago
What a *#@§!!!
Our dentist recommends all the kids go to the orthopedic dentist (is that the right term?) when they are around 11 / 12 years old to check that their jaws & teeth are developing correctly which I think is a good idea. It looks like Sara will need a brace & our insurance will pay for most of the treatment but we'll still have to pay around €50 per month for 2 years.
I still don't understand why we have to pay health insurance & then have to pay heaps of money on top
A couple of years ago I had to have treatment on a damaged tooth & it cost me €800!!! For one tooth!!!
Don't rush into anything Dom but consider your options carefully. Maybe a second opinion might help or a change of insurance company

Outch! That sucks Dominique.
Can't you sue your old dentist for mal-practice and make him pay most of the expenses you're having now that you wouldn't have had if he had done his job right?

Really sorry to hear your problems Dom.
I hope it won´t be too expensive.
Maureen,
In Sweden we have a pretty good dentist insurance by the goverment.
All kids under 20 years old don´t pay anything at all.
If you are over 20 you have to pay the cost up to 300 euro.
The cost between 300 and 1500 you have to pay 50% off. And depending on your age you get between 30 and 60 euro discount also.
The cost over 1500 you only pay 15% off.
And if you want you can as everywhere I guess take a private insurance between you and your dentist to make sure it won´t cost to much.
And I agree with Tojo, that it is a shame they didn´t told you this when you was younger and could have got it for free or cheaper.

Dom, what horrible news!
I understand what your going through right now. I had some very expensive root canals and bridgework done and it only lasted a couple of years, they ended up pulling all of it out and I had to get implants on two teeth. We had to remortgage our house to pay for it.....yup.....it was that expensive
I hope you can come up with a solution so you don't have to sell your smurfs!

Dear all,
I'd like to thank you for your compassion, pms etc.
It took me one night to think it over and I decided neither to sell any smurf nor to stop collecting.
(I'd like to thank the "BP gang" in particular. Big
)
The smurfs are not only collector items, but they are fond childhood memories of my late granny and my parents. If, however, I had sold some of the items, I wouldn't have been capable of staying here. My heart would have ached forever.
My parents and me are trying to work out a plan with my insurances. Please keep your fingers crossed for me.
@André: I do envy your health system.
There's only one health insurance, in which you stay from the cradle to the grave.

I hope you can sort something out Dom.
I was shocked when I heard that you even considered selling your cuties but now I've read this I understand better. I'm still glad you won't be leaving us though.
