Have your smurf collecting habits evolved over the years?

I know this is a mouthful of a question :) :) :)

I am in a very reflective mood today and thought about my smurf collecting habits and how they seem to have changed.
At first I was only interested in the smurfs I really liked and didn't mind getting rid of the ones I didn't like at all. Once I joined up here, I quickly became a Smurfnut who thought that I needed to have eyerything that had a smurf on it...since this phase lasted for a few years, you can imagine what my house looks like. It did make for a pretty nice looking website though.

I have noticed that this past year my habits have changed..especially since I quit ebay...With some older interests reawakening, my new house and other things it seemed that it got easier to say "no" or "I can wait" to certain smurf articles or even smurfs. I have gotten away from getting so many smurfy items and gotten back to getting more smurfs that I can find at affordable prices. Luckily, friends and sellers have helped me so that even without visiting ebay I don't suffer from a draught. It's just that instead of three packages a day, I am down to one package every two weeks..and in those packages are usually really really nice smurfs nowadays..or simply nice variations (mostly markings).

Thanks to friends, I am still getting smurfy items though once in a while as well

How have your smurf habits changed over the years...or have they changed at all? :D

I haven't really been collecting long enough to answer this properly, but I have been through phases where I've concentrated on certain things. So far, these have included badges/buttons/patches, smurf pvcs, stickers and plush. I've even lost interest in ebay at the moment since the fair, but I don't know if that's because of Christmas yet or if it will last. I think I now want to save up my pennies for when I can visit the sisters and for when I want something special. Plus there are other non smurfy things that I want to save up for too. :D

Interesting thread Moey. :-D

I agree Hilary intresting thread. I have been collecting for over 30 years and only stopped because I couldn't find anything out there. Once I found the internet things have really skyrocketed for me. My house is over run with Smurf stuff. I can't really say that anything has changed though. Had all this stuff been avalilabe to me I would have already had it. I'm really sorry that I didn't know about SCCI until I joined MV in 1999. I would have had all that stuff too.

I started out much like Maureen in that I first only collected things I liked but i never got rid of anything that was extra. Now i'm finding less and less space to put things so I select more of what I am buying, even going as far as not getting everything smurfy that is coming out this past year in the stores. Mainly the clothing items. But unfortunatly for my bank account I am finding myself falling more in love with the pricy items like the leblon statues. Luckily these dont come out that often though :)

Unfortunatly for your husband too maybe. :)

But I would guess he prefer a very nice Leblon Smurfette, compared to if you gave him a pair of naughty/nice boxer-underwear with smurfs on them. :o

:) :) I'm sure those boxers would not go over too good with him, but then again if I told him they are cheaper than the smurfette he might just grin and take it :) :)

 Interesting, as my Smurf collection came somewhat after my interest in the Smurfs, having got up early in the morning to watch the Smurfs on the TV every day, brilliant! The whole philosophy I find interesting and then to enjoy Smurf music, (car shows always sees me playing the Smurfs) and finally as an 'ethical hacker' by trade, a Smurf Attack being one of the worst forms of attack against servers. Thus my nickname for a good while has been Smurf and very few people know my real name. Initially I had only a few Smurfs, mainly Plush's, annuals, vinyls, CDs, Videos and some three and four foot Smurfs. It is probably only in the last few years that I have actually collected Smurfs, initially again only those that I 'liked' so I have a large collection of Soccer Smurfs, now I am 'hooked' and trying to make up my full collection of Smurfs.
;-) Streuth thats a long post! May I wish you all A smurfing New Year!!!!

That´s where I have seen them Bill.

And since Gerda has stopped buying clothing items, you will have to figure out when Gerdas husbands birthday is. Then you should wrap it nicely and send it to him as a present. But don´t say anything to Gerda. :shhh:

By the way is naughty on the front or on the back.
Gerda might want to know this before you send them. :-?
