Hi everybody,

since Lia had a lovely sunbather in stonematerial I got an idea.

I want one also, but I guess it is not that easy. :(

So I decided to make my own.   Could actually look like a pile of **** when I am finished but I will give it a try. :banghead:

I don´t know the english name, but speckstein is the german name.

It is a very soft stonematerial you can carve in and feels like soap.

These stones are from Brazil and China.

I decided to make a pink sunbather. :D

First I made a pretty good sized piece to start with.

And then started forming it.

This is where I am now. I will let you see it when I am finished. 8)

I will probably end up making 100 before I have one I dare to show here.  :?

Joaquin,

I am slowly getting there. :-D

I worked with it a little bit today and now it looks like this.

So keep your fingers crossed. It sometimes breaks a bit so I have to go forward slowly.

Still a long way to go before finished with my "speckstein"-sunbather. :D

I think you´re really doing, André!!! Good work!!
And it´s a great idea! I can´t wait to see it finished ,

I thought you might like it Carlos. :D

You should try it. Since this stone is very soft to carve in but at the same time very strong. And we all know you have the skills to make beautiful creations. :-D

You might go to a hobby store and get a set of jewlers files for when you start to get close. They are very small and all diffrent shapes. I used to take mercury dimes and drill a hole in in them. Then take the files and cut out everything but the head and ring. I made about 20 of them and sold them for $10 each and made a few more and gave to my sisters.

I got to thinking. You might not have ever seen a mercury dime. So I placed one next to a quarter, and while you may not have seen one of those either it is almost exactly the size of a german mark.

Slowly starting with some details ( ears, mouth and eyes) while drinking my morningcoffee. :D

I think I have to finish the head before starting with the legs. Because I don´t want to hold the thin legs while making the head. Then they could possibly break. So the legs will be the last thing I do??? :-?

I finished my sunbather smurf this morning. After polishing it with oil I let him rest in the sun together with his new blue friend. :-D

And now I have a sunbather Lia will never find anywhere!! :joy: 8-)
Also made in my favorite material, stone!!
