Surprise Bag Smurfs

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but why were these three different coloured smurfs released separately and not considered as variation Smurfs.

Good question, but i am afraid i don't have the answer.
What i do know is that these are one of my favorite smurfs.......

I'm proud to say I own the red/gold cone Smurf but not the other 2. Still trying to find them at a bargin price.
