Blue Cavern

On this blog, made by a Flemish comics creator, you can see some Smurfy inspiration he had.
Included is the cover he made for the most recent Spirou (magazine that originally published the Smurfs): the real cover showed the King Smurf (the reedition of which was started inside), and his cover was used on page three.

Hi Fram, I think they are very appealing and cute. Yes you can certainly see a smurfy influence.

I love the noses on these guys. Is it common for comic characters to only have 4 fingers like the smurfs?

aww....ya not meant to get technical Steve....but...ok.....I will rephrase the question.

Is it common for comic characters to have 3 fingers & a thumb? If I was a comic character then I would much prefer to have 5 fingers....sorry...I meant 4 fingers and a thumb......I guess it just comes down to the luck of the draw really doesn't it.

Does anyone know any comic characters which would have 5 fingers (I mean 4 fingers & a thumb) instead of four like the Smurfs ? Excluding human characters like Tintin etc. At least all the traditional Disney characters are missing one finger. Or am I all wrong here?

good question Oprime i dont know about other charecters but i now one smurf with four fingers and a thumb. The 3oth aniversery smurf standing on the gold plinth has. Anyone else think of any??

Yes, originally Smurfs had five fingers as well, but it is some golden comics rule that five fingers are terrible to draw, so most (if not all) cartoon heroes (i.e. not realistic ones) have four fingers.
