Hi Sassard,
You might be able to find boot-leg / unofficial smurfs at the night markets around hong kong. I was there in 1999 and remember finding tons of surprise toys in strange places (though then I wasn't looking for smurfs).
I'm in Beijing now and recently returned from Shanghai, but couldn't find smurfs anywhere. The big department toy stores might sell Schleich's latest 50. In Beijing, there was a toy store selling the new line, but it dropped Schleich toys shortly before I arrived.
As for boot-legs / non-licensed, I found the giant king smurf at a tiny corner toy store in Chengde city last year.
You just have to browse around in small shops and markets. I'll take a wild guess that you won't find a dedicated smurf store. Except for Lego, German toys aren't too common here, and there are tons of Japanese collectibles that the Chinese go ga-ga over (like Hello Kitty).
But, I think we have a couple of Hong Kong collectors. Maybe they'll prove me wrong.
