Hi all,
now let's continue with
1989, no big main releases, sadly a few things have gone (it seems forever), and a new box set including 5 smurfs appears with "7 Themes" for the smurfs.
Don't skip any page, please check out the 1989 Schleich Dealer Catalogue DIN A4 and a A4 sheet, I haven't photographed all pages, only the smurf related.
My next upload will be - as an intermezzo - the
1985 Maia + Borges the next days, a highlight for the Portugal marking specialists, please be patient and prepared
Had to reduce file size and resolution, high-res. on request.

Thanks Stefan
The mega rare original hula smurfette is in this katalog. She was clearly made as a pvc and not just a design as you can see her on page 5 as well as earlier in the new smurf releases
Never heard of a collector having her (!) in his/her collection

I love the idea of those themed 7-packs. I've never seen those before. Looking at the price they weren't even expensive (DM 6,50).

In the SCCI letters they told us they recieved this version. But they were assured by Schleich that they were the only ones getting one, and this was clearly made to be sold at first. So I would guess the same material as the later hula. So someone releated to the SCCI should have this rare version. It is even pictured in the SCCI when this hula was first released in 1989. And they had been assured that the first hulaversion they recieved will be the only version produced!! But could be some more working at Schleich who got her also, who knows???
It is pictured in letter 13 summer 1989. And since they got this first version that was withdrawn at this time, the hula was not sold until 1989.
Tojo,
These theme-packs are among the items I would love to inherit from Gerda, if I get that old.
She have them all on her website.

Martin,
my mistake I read the letter again and they recieved the new hula and this was the ones they meant was the only hula to be produced.
So maybe no hula like the one pictured was ever released??
You see what happens when you are not "born" englishspeaking and reading it fast.
Here is the letterlink anyway.

Yes that is intresting Martin.
I believe these 2 smurfs they picked up from other countries. 20136 Pumpkin and 20170 American football.
20170 was made between 1983/84-1986 in Hongkong. But since they stopped with the hongkongsmurfs they made a new germanmold for this after this.
20136 Pumkin was also made in Portugal so therefore they just picked the portugal one and didn´t have to make a new mold.
But Martin, the intresting things is that around 1990 they started with the CE markings. So the 20170 you can find with CE and Christy has 20136 from Portugal with CE on back. I only have the portugal one with the CE-label they also used around 89/90.

Fascinating Andre!!
I have the reverse-same CE marking on pumpkin as Christy but handcut CE on quarterback!!! I gave the q/back away as I don't like the handcut marking......never seen the "genuine" mark on this guy....congrats!!
Has the forum got a list of which smurfs have this genuine CE mark????
Martin

Martin,
you told me you were going to give us that list!!
I think we all together can work out a pretty good list. I believe all new and old molds from after the break 91 have the CE in mold.
It is the smurfs made and sold between 88 and 91 which are difficult to tell.
This text tell us that it was during this time the CE mark started on toys. But this was only european restrictions within EU:
"The CE mark was introduced in the beginning of the 1990's in order to give the manufacturer a way of showing that the product complies with the requirements of the directives. The CE mark means that the product can be sold freely within the EU and does not for example have to be retested in the different member states. For certain products that are regarded as particularly hazardous or that must be tested, the directives require that the manufacturer turn to one or more independent third parties, so called notified bodies. These bodies are assessed and acknowledged by the member states of the EU for testing, certification and inspection in accordance with the requirements of the different directives."
And I think it was this directive from 1988 ( 88/378/eec) for toys that started it, so before 88 I do not think they could have used it:
"The CE Marking is the manufacturer's declaration that his toys meet the essential requirements of the European Safety of Toys Directive (STD) 88/378/eec, and that such toys are therefore entitled to free movement throughout the 28 European Union & EFTA member states. The CE Marking has often been described as the "products' trade passport to Europe".

And therefore Stefan, the catalogue from 1990 is very intresting.
The smurfs marked as last year-smurf( with star) and if removed were probably only made one year with CE marking, my guess???

For example this cowboy smurfette, many of you don´t have as CE on the website. But check maybe you have it. CE on leg.
I believe it was first hongkongmade to 86. Then Germanmade without CE until around 90 and then CE-marked.

Hi,
I wanted to tell you that many of the smurfs in these themed sets were not sold as normalssmurfs this year but still sold in this set. So for example the smurf with floursack they stopped selling 86 but it was actually sold in these sets also. And the wilder.
Gerda have all these sets on her website!!!

I have the western set of these but it's missing it's outer case, the smurfs are still blusterpacked though. I'd love the full set, but i've never seen any for sale anywhere.

Steve,
I think both you and me should be pleased with having one.
These were only sold for a very short period and are much harder to find then the combisets. I would also love the complete set but I think it will be very hard to get.
