I just noticed this on the BP.com

They also write that BP in Holland gave away free smurfs in 1965.

But I would love to see the videoclip. Can´t get it working and I can´t download it either??? :banghead:

http://www.bp.com/extendedsectiongeneri ... Id=7036819

Just go to 1965 in the list below. :D

What a freaky coincend that this has just been posted not 5 mins after I read it and had a look at the BP site I got a phonecall from a friend of my X wifes family. Someone who collected the full set of BP smurfs when they were given out as he was a collector of all things has just aked her to phone me and ask me if I wanted them! :-D :-D

So I dont know what to expect but aparatly there all in mint condition from when he got them and have been stored away since then.

Any ideas of what I could be getting? were they given away in the packaging or were they loose?

I know they are (i think) the basic figures but will be interesting to see the markings and if there is anything special tucked away amoungst them.
Was the smurf with the BP logo on it ect part of the give away? I have seen bits and pices about it in the past but since I stoped collecting a few years ago and have no re started I need a bit of a refresher corse. Any info would be great

Sorry just getting over exited about getting them lol :)

Smurfy regards
Steve :D

Steve, there were no special names like BP on them and I showed this before, but because you probably didn`t see it, I`ll show again.
I have a lot of BP items, and if you coud get the smurfmobiel or jubilee set on yellow platform, it would be fantastic!

You should know me by now Lia!! :o

I always think different "research"( curiosity?? ).

The thing I want to know if, like on the first picture, the Bullysmurfs were ever mentioned on these.

It seems to be the same shelves just mounted on eachothers, right?

So do you know how many smurfs were mentioned.

What I mean is; Bully never had anything to do with BP. So if bullysmurfs involved it must be after 1980?

The intresting thing with the BP information on their website is that they say it started with the smurfs as giveaways in BP in Holland and then because of the success it spread to other countries also.

But for me the BP smurf success was in the late 70s or in the very early 80s??

It seems the petrolcompanies( BP, National, Shell, same owners then???) in around 1982 left the smurfs for other things.

So what year do think these shelves are from?

I don`t remember the name bully combined with BP.
But I know, that loads and loads of Dutch people are selling smurfs on marktplaats, saying that these are the BP smurfs , they got in the sixties and seventies from BP.
Somehow, I have the amount of 35 smurfs in my head???, but I have no reasonable explanation or proof for it... (

It is the same URL Maureen,

but if you go to the year 1965 in the list below you get to a page like this if you click on the smurf icon.

It is supposed to be a 30 sec clip but I can´t see it. Or download the PDF-file.

Here is a printscreen for you.

I found it....I couldn't get it to work either.

Andre, wouldn't the smurfs used by BP not also be the same as the ones used by Kellogs? Not sure why, but I figured BP ran their smurf promotion in HOlland in the 60s around the same time as Kellogs did :-?

I don´t know Maureen???

But now both Schleich, the company who made the smurfs, and BP the company who sold the smurfs, are saying the same thing. Used as a give away by BP starting 1965. :-? :D So I assume then the thing Schleich write in their book is very likely to be true. The first smurfs Schleich made was for BP used as give aways. Of course these smurfs could also have been used in the kelloggs boxes in 1966 and 1967??? :-?

Lia,

If you check this picture of the puzzle sold by ASS, you see that they have both Schleich and Bullysmurfs mixed already in 1977, 1978, 1979.

My guess is that it could have been like this.

Because Schleich was not allowed to sell smurfs in Germany( and other countries) between 1977 and 1979 they could have been working together in selling them. So Bully helped Schleich selling them in Germany and Schleich helped Bully selling them other countries through for example BP in Holland??? :-?

These type of pictures you can find on a lot of items, like records, puzzles, cards etc.

So they must have worked together in some way during these last Bully years.

I just saw a BP puzzle, but the smurfs on it was like a drawing, but there are many other pics that support your theory!
