Something fishy about $1,000 pizza

A New York restaurateur has cooked up the world's most extravagant pizza - a $US1,000 ($A1,270) pie topped with six kinds of caviar and fresh lobster.

Nino Selimaj, who runs six pizza restaurants in the Big Apple, unveiled the Luxury Pizza, a 30cm, thin crust topped with caviar, lobster, creme fraiche and chives. Cut into eight, it works out at $US125 ($A159) a slice.

"I know this won't be for everyone but there are people in New York who can afford it and once tried, they'll be back for more. It is delicious," said Selimaj, who moved to New York from Albania about 29 years ago.

"Sure, some people will say it is just a publicity stunt but I have researched this for over a year and think there is a demand. I have already sold one," he told Reuters.

Selimaj said Nino's Bellissima in Manhattan, the only one of his restaurants to offer the dish, needs 24 hours notice for the gourmet dish because it orders the caviar in advance.

"But where better to experiment with pizza than in New York where people love their pizza?" he asked.

If diners are still hungry after the Luxury Pizza, they can always head over to nearby restaurant Serendipity, which sells a $US1,000 ice-cream sundae called Golden Opulence that is covered in 23-karat edible gold leaf.

I wouldn't buy it....caviar :-P

I saw a picture of this on headline news and it looked horrible, they had some guy in a business suit taking a bite out of it and he looked like he was ready to toss his cookies, but of course he had to act like he liked it, but that napkin went up to his mouth REALLY fast after that bite!!

HI!

I think this guy should have called his pizza "just for suckers"

he knows people must be pretty stupid to pay that for a slice of

pizza when the ingredients he mentions aren't worth more then

maybe a small lump of coal.  and we all know there are lots of those>

all he is doing is exploiting the airheads with taking their money.

he should be donating $950. of it to the poor or homeless.

To spend 1000 € in a pizza is as stupid as to spend 1000 euros in one of the really rare smurfs that our friend smu****ace :tiphat: sells dialy on ebay!!!!!

I am a a bit classic: pizza with mozzarella, prosciuto and mushrooms!!!

Hmmmm. I like pizza but not one like that as I don't like seafood much & definitely not something like caviar & lobster.

A nice hawaii pizza with extra peperoni sausage to give it some bite & I'm in heaven

I was thinking of ordering one in a couple of hours time Rae as the night shift is long. Would you like a regular or family sized pizza? Should I get a bottle of vino too?
