I was looking through my music collection recently adding songs to an ipod that I absolutely love and now can't live without when I thought about the first album I ever bought.

The first album I ever bought by a singlular music artist was Love An Adventure by Australian pop group Pseudo Echo (you may recall their Funky Town hit in 1986/87) in 1986 on cassette when I had just turned 12 years old. I think from memory I kind of borrowed the money from somewhere I shouldn't of to get it but since I played it a lot I kind of feel like it was well justified.

I was wondering (for a laugh) what was the first album you guys ever bought?

Dyar

PS - The 2nd album I bought, about 2 weeks later also by dubious means was Spandau Ballet's greatest hits (Moey would be impressed but don't tell anyone ok?).

Ooooh, this has got me thinking. :scratchinghead:

I *think* my first album was Queen Greatest Hits on cassette tape. :band:

I am fairly sure I must have bought some singles on vinyl before this such as Madness - Baggy Trousers, Abba - Super Trouper but without checking I can't remember many more.

As for first CD, I have a horrible feeling it could have been something like Dire Straits. :bolt:

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

The first album I ever bought was Tubeway Army by Tubeway Army. It came in a blue gatefold cover but the record is normal vinyl & not the much more valuable blue vinyl pressing. I still love this album even though it's nearly 30 years old now (it was first released in 1978 although I bought my copy in 1981).

The first singles I ever bought cost me 2p each at a school fete in 1976. I bought 'Coz I love you' by Slade, & 4 Hollies ones 'We're through', 'Look through any window', 'I can't let go' & 'On a carousel'.

The first full price single I bought was 'Hit me with your rhythm stick' by Ian Dury & the Blockheads which cost me 79p at W.H.Smiths. I still love this record too :D

Most of my records are in boxes in the cellar as I just haven't got the space to store them better :( A lot of them I've bought in CD format over the years which saves space in the living room even though there are over 1000 of them :)

The 1st CD I bought was 'Head over heels' by the Cocteau Twins. I bought it on the same day as I bought my new HiFi system in 1987. I plugged everything together & put the cd in. Nothing happened, it was so quiet so I turned up the volume a bit more. And then the first track started causing me to have a minor heart attack & nearly wet me pants :) :) The sound was so crystal clear, no hiss or crackle or skipping needles. I was gobsmacked. Since then I always keep the volume turned down low to save my heart any extra stress :)

Ok...this is kinda embarrassing...but you guys won't be too harsh right? :-?

My first record album I bought with my own money was when I was about 12 and I kept seeing it advertised on tele and I had to have it as I had just started to play violin. It was Vivaldi's Four Seasons...please don't laugh!!! :(

Now...even more embarrassing...

My very first CD that I bought with my own money was New Kids on the Block 1992 Australian Tour CD!!!

Look...I was young...it was the 90's...can I really be held responsible for such bad taste? :o

Maybe I shouldn't admit that I actually frequently listen to the NKOTB CD still... :)

Ahem!!! Vivaldi is excusable but New Kids on the block!!!!!!! What on earth were you thinking :-? And then to admit that you still listen to the cd

Still at least it wasn't a Tokyo Hotel cd. :) :)

interesting Topic :D

I had to think a little bit, but I am pretty sure that my first album was from the British Pop Band "KajaGooGoo"...I don't remember my second album..as I was buying more singly vinyls back then..

Every week when my mother gave me my pocket money I went to one of the local record stores (Lerche) and looked thru the single vinyl section to see if I found enough singles I could spend it all on ( I always did :-D ) :) :) :) I had quite an extensive collection that I left behind in Germany unfortunately....

I do believe my second album could have been from Duran Duran (my best friend was a big Duran Duran fan (she adored John Taylor :) )

and I was very impressed, Dyar, when you told me..not only because it was your second album..but also that you knew who they were because when I asked my friends and coworkers around here if they remember SB, all I got were blank looks :)

Actually I think my first album was either the "Hobbit" (1978) or one of those collection of funny songs for kids.

Or do you mean one we bought as an official adult? The Eagles' Hotel California? (age 15).
