Hi :)

I was given the following task for my communication III course:
Write a paper on any topic you want. Of course, I chose myself "Why is collecting smurfs an interesting hobby?"

I will argue that they are cute, that there nobody knows how many variations of each of the smurfs has been released, there are billions of interesting non-pvc items and that one might make many friends worldwide, whom are also interested in smurfs as oneself and one might find them at fleamarkets, smurf fairs (Passion and Brussels).

Anything else I should mention in my theses, please?

Thank you so much in advance!

oo-oo---miss!!..i know,i know (hand raised so far it almost reaches the ceiling)

You could put that there is a little bit of the main Smurf characters in all of us...We all get Angry,shy,greedy.etc..And there is a Smurf for almost every walk of life.

OR!!...that the Smurfs stand for a simpler/better way of life...that modern life is so quickly losing (i`m sure there`s a moral code in there somewhere)..

I don`t know if thats any help to you..i was rubbish at essays/theses at school :( BUT!! as my Danish friend once said to me Smurfs are essentially all good characters (i re-introduced her to Smurfs for the 1st time since she was a child growing up in Germany..where she used to watch them on T.V.) :D

Good luck with the theses anyway!
BLUE MOON..YOU SAW ME SMURFING ALONE!

Good luck writing your report Dominique

You could say that:

1. The hobby can last for decades as there are so many things to collect and no one can have everything...therefore each collection has their own uniqueness.

2. The friends you make around the world with other collectors and the travelling to different countries like Belgium and the Netherlands for the smurf fairs.

3. With the forum you learn to publicly express yourself and build your confidence and self esteem

4. You learn about buying and selling and dealing with sellers and buyers

5. You get to see a Liverpudian guy wear a pink tutu and actually be proud of it

I am sure there are tons more but here's some for starters Dominique :D

Wow...That's an interesting topic... :)

What about:

- You can get smurfs very cheap, so it is "easy" for beginners to build a big collection, but nevertheless there are also many very rare smurfs collectors can spend much on
- Smurfs are modern - every year there are coming new ones, some with modern things doing (Hip-Hop-smurf etc.)
- You can build great landscapes, displays and own creations
- You can get them everywhere - shops, flea markets, internet, fairs...
- You make friends with the postman... :) ;)

Good luck with it Dominique. I think it is great that you can write about something you love so much. :-D

I can't think of much else to add as the other answers have been so good, but you could mention how easy they are to collect because they are so small and don't break easily making them idea to post around the world. :D

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

We say that, then we find out Ritter_Schlumpfenhertz is a Ph.D student in a psychology program writing a thesis on "traits indicative of non-sexual perversion latent in a distributed community of poly-cultural synthesis" subtitled: "This is what became of the f*cking British empire and its Former Colonies and boy am I glad to be German".

Nah, since I'm studying English and history, I highly doubt I could write a Ph.D. in a psychology program.
