I don't know if that has been disussed before, but when I saw this http://cgi.ebay.com/4-0208-Schildtraege ... dZViewItem auction I thought I could start this thread...

It is the English variation of the Sign Bearer, but the box has the German label "Super Schlumpf" and "Schildträger". So I wonder if the super smurf boxes must have been printed in the same country as the smurfs are coming from. I mostly have German boxes, but also a few English (Rowboat, Volleyball etc.). Are there boxes in different languages? I have no same box twice, so I can't compare.

If the boxes are different, can the smurf in the auction above be in "his own" box? If not, can you call that a complete and right smurf?

I even wonder what you think about to buy a smurf at first and then later a box? Can you make mistakes? :???: :)

Hi Simon, nice topic. :-D

Firstly I have to say that super smurf boexs are really not a speciality of mine and I even have an awful lot that haven't been added to Blue Imps yet so this will be an interesting topic for me to learn from. I do though intend to get to the super smurfs very soon and I'm sure I will be learning a lot more about them whilst taking new pics and adding info about them too. :D

I can't really give you any kind of a definite answer but I do know that yes, there are super smurf boxes in different languages, I have some with different languages on the box but the same markings on the smurfs for sure.

Unless you are buying them still completely sealed it is probably very difficult to say 100% sure that the correct smurf is in the correct box but if the smurf is being sold from it's original owner it is more than likely they should match.

I am also fairly sure that different markings can sometimes be found in the same box too and hopefully someone can confirm this as it is a bit difficult to check all of mine at the moment.

Looking forward to hearing more on this.............. :sherlock:

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

Hi Simon,
that's a very interesting topic and I am looking forward to the answers.

I know nothing about boxes..and i am not sure if we can tell which smurf variation belongs to which box

However, Dyar has some good pages on his website showing the different box variations.... :D [/list]

Thanks for posting that link Moey :D

I missed out on a nice box in Maryland (Fireman) when I was with Stace hitting the antique shops. The only reason I couldn't buy it was because it did not have a price on it and they had to contact the owner of the item before they would sell it. By the time Stace went back after I had left the US it was not there so it looks like I missed out on it. I know Stace has one of them so I am hoping to find it again somewhere. It's the American version that states on the box it can spit water out of the house or something like that. I have a feeling it may not be that rare but still a very nice one to have all the same....especially when you don;t have it.

I love Fawlty Towers :D

Kind of reminds me of my relationship at home actually. I haven't hit the car with a branch yet......although if I had one then I just might.

Ha ha, my favourite comedy series of all time :) I love the episode (The Germans) where Sybil has to go into hospital & Basil has to hang the moose head up. Hearing Manuel saying 'I speak Engleesh very well, I learn it from a boook' while he's under the counter & the Major thinks it's the moose speaking has me in fits every time :) :) Great stuff :-D And anything set in my home town has to be good :D
Tojo McTonyson - Okarben's Bagpiper Extraordinaire.... :partyon:

Oh I agree, Tojo...that episode was something else :sofunny:

I love all the episodes, but yes, hearing that moose head speak.....I still laugh at the thought of that :sofunny:
