I couldn find a topic on this so I made a new one. Could you people write here all the mistakes that the DSK IV has? It would be nice make proper corrections to the book.

This started when I noticed that the brown roofed farmhouse (page 335, pic 30) is missing on part of its drainpipe! The end is missing!! have you noticed this before?

@Yonna: I think we should mention the MiB mistakes (the trumbone is photographed twice, instead of using a pic of the French horn). I think, we talked about that problem, whilst staying in the hotel at Houdeng.

Nice topic Yonna. :-D

I know there is an error with the prices of the torchbearers on the proms pages. I will dig my DSK out later for more details and to see if I can remember any more. :D

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

I haven't noticed the missing part on the farmhouse in the DSK...thanks for mentioning that, Yonna :D

I think we all agreed that the Soccer smurfs called US Football smurfs in the DSK are really UK soccer smurfs p.319 and probably the smurf with the orange shirt and black shorts is a Dutch soccer smurf :-? :D

Is the sitting smurf on the trapeze (page 329) a real variation? When I see it on ebay I always believed it was a homemade one :-?

Geez where do we start with this :) :)

I have always believed this one to be a home made compilation between 2 seperate items (Trapeze & Tree Stump Pen Holder or Swing (from playground playset).

There are many errors in the DSK which is understandable in some ways when collecting this amount of information. I believe the Tennis Player (with green base and painted socks) and the American Football alternative colour variations to be CNTs and not Schleich Smurfs. I think there is at least one more of these that I can't remember off the top of my head.

There are also quite a few variations in there that I do not believe exist

or the best one .. the tooth brushing smurf with blue tube is a fake in the DSK but the variation is existing.

@Dyar..which variation do you think is not existing ?

Postby Ritter_Schlumpfenherz » Wed Jun 20, 2007 3:01 am
@Cheesy: How does the fake one distinguish from the genuine one? :-?

Postby Guest » Wed Jun 20, 2007 3:09 am
the blue stripes at the toothpaste are missing in the DSK and also the blue color is wrong...

Thank you so much, Cheesy. :D

Intersting topic!!!!!!I think we have spoken sometimes about it, but nice to remeber it...
I believe the Tennis Player (with green base and painted socks) and the American Football alternative colour variations to be CNTs and not Schleich Smurfs. I think there is at least one more of these that I can't remember off the top of my head.
Perhaps, smurf with cake nr 20100, with a red plate????

And some other questions about DSK:

1.- Why you ca see there CNT but not Argentina Minimodels, even being these ones licensed smurfs (Schleich)?

2.- I agree with Dyar about some variations...I am almost 100 % sure they don´t exist as real variation: for example some of the super with Alfred J.K items, or some of flower smurf (20019)

3.- I know there are lots of variants not appearing in DSK, but for ex I can´t understand why some of historic smurfs in HK markings are not included

4.- Promo smurf 224 (pg 223) is included in variants

5.- Why to call most of international football players as "US teams"?

@Dominique: I would say toothbrush smurf with a blue tube is repainted too: you even can see red paint btw the hand and the tube...But this smurf do exist...I have it with some lost paint and you can´t see the red below

Don´t think I don´t like DSK: nowadays is the best guide we have, but I think it colud be better...I akways travel to fairs with my "hand written" DSK

HAVE A NICE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will try to answer some of these even though I will probably be guessing at some
And some other questions about DSK:

1.- Why you ca see there CNT but not Argentina Minimodels, even being these ones licensed smurfs (Schleich)?
I am thinking it's because not a lot was known about the Minimodels until recent years. I don't think Frank was an expert on them and perhaps he couldn't get his hands on some or find out enough info about them at the time. It will be definately be interesting to see if they are included in the next edition.....I think they should be in there but I guess we'll see when it comes out.
2.- I agree with Dyar about some variations...I am almost 100 % sure they don´t exist as real variation: for example some of the super with Alfred J.K items, or some of flower smurf (20019)
Yup that's what I think. I could go thru the DSK (if I had it handy) and point out the ones I do not believe exist. There are others that I am also very doubtful about including some that are not very rare you would think. I have never seen a Swimmer 20025 with Macau markings. It's possible it exists I guess but I have never seen any evidence of this so far. Of course there are other weird and wonderful colour variations that I do not believe exist but I don't have the DSK with me to list them. I have all of the DSKs so far and I once (a long time ago) went through each one and listed the changes from each edition compared to the last. I have seen a lot of errors in the past ones and each time I think it's getting better so hopefully the next one will fix the errors in the last one as well. It will be interesting discussing it once it comes out...I know I will be very quick to get one myself to check it out.
3.- I know there are lots of variants not appearing in DSK, but for ex I can´t understand why some of historic smurfs in HK markings are not included
I once thought these 9 Historicals (listed in the DSK) were the only ones out there and was really surprised (after acquiring all 9) to find out my Historicals were incomplete. I am guessing it was just lack of info at the time and maybe it will be fixed up for the next...I hope at least.
4.- Promo smurf 224 (pg 223) is included in variants
I don't have the DSK but I am guessing you are talking about the ASS Cardplayer promos here. That is very strange I think. I regard the one with ASS wording as the promo and I regard the one without as a variation (maybe left over stock). I know most consider both to be promos due to the emblem on the card.....but I think my way makes more sense.....if only to me. :) :)
5.- Why to call most of international football players as "US teams"?
I thiunk Rach spoke to Frank about this and he may of even agreed with Rach at the time. I think this may be fixed for the next one along with the Kwak items (which I think should be included and stated as such).

I can't wait until DSK no.5 is alive and we all can discuss every topic under the sun and argue, throw insults and food at each other all in the name of good smurfing fun

I recently chatted to someone about the DSK, and this person had me going from page to page and was pointing out to me all of the dodgy smurfs, i was amazed to tell you the truth, it was a very much needed Smurf lesson !

So we must remember this book is only a guide, it is not always correct, it is up to us as an individual to check with the seller or another knowledgable smurfer as to what you are thinking of buying :D

:-D
