This is one of the silliest questions I have asked and considering how long I have been collecting it is very late for me to ask it

I am a bit overwhelmed right now as I am trying to create a list of all the smurfs I have for my upcoming visit up North. Stace promised to take me smurf shopping so I thought it's time to do a list but I am just not sure how best to go about it..I have started one but I am not too happy with it and I was wondering how everybody else does their list if they have one. Do you have a spreadsheet, do you keep track of every marking or just the countries or just the colors or whatever else you do might prove to be helpful for me :-?

I have started one with giving each marking type I have a number (i.e. 1 for Germany, Schleich, Peyo, 2 for HK, schleich peyo, 3 for Bully, you get the idea) and putting the numbers next to the smurfs, which are on the spreadsheet sorted by their official numbers.

I know that once I have the smurfs on the website this will be my best reference but frankly taking a computer into a store and pulling up my website...well it is a bit inconvenient, I think :???:

Hi, Maureen!!!!It is not a silly question...I have been thinking about it recently but not sure what to do...When I began to collect again, I used the gaps in each "half page" of each smurf...That is easy when you have 2-3 variants, but when your collection is growing is more difficult...I try to use a line for each smurf, and this line contains colours (darker or lighter), dots and detailed markings: Schleich Emblem or not, CE or not, markings on right or left foot etc

I want to make a kind of book, with a page for each model, and write detailedly all possible of each variant...For me the most difficult is to clasify the fake smurfs :D :D :D

I have 3 word files. The first is the checklist downloaded from Mushroom Village so that I know what I have & what's still missing (too much). The second is a table of which smurfs I have with the catalogue number, manufacturer & a picture of the smurf (pinched from Gaschers) so that I have a quick reference. The third is a table with every marking I can find on the smurfs.

You have to remember that I don't have a Schlumpf Katalog as yet so that's why I'm in such a mess. I think the best solution would be to have a palm thingamigig, one of those hand held pc jobbies where one could keep everything to hand. Maybe one day when I win the lottery... :)

I thought about getting one of these but decided to get an Ipod (well, Zune) instead..... :) :) :) I can put pictures on there...maybe I should put smurf pictures on it :D

so far I put all of my music on it (must not be much as it isn't even a third full) and some pictures and I am loving it

ok back to how to keep track of your smurfs :) :)

I used to just mark off in the dsk what I had but soon found that often times the sligtest difference would confuse me and I would mark off a smurf I did not have.. Like for instance two of the same smurf could have the exact same markings but have them on different feet so I would mark off the markings but the fact that they where on different would not be checked. So what I have stared doing is I got myself a binder and some loose leaf paper, Each smurf gets there own paper if I only have one of him or not, they I write down exactly how the smurf is marked and what color, I found this easier to reference. I know primative... but it seems to be working for me. I am a long way off on finishing it but I like how it is turning out.

Hi Moey

When I went smurf hunting with Stace I actually asked the shop if I could pull up my website and they allowed me to do that so I could check what variations I needed.

I have my own Catalogue which is a word doc that I also print out ahd have over 3 large binder folders (not very mobile unfortunately). I have been lucky that I can seem to recognise when I see a variation I don't have and 9.5 times out of 10 I will be correct which has been really helpful. I do think one of those hand-jobby things (PDF I think) is probably the best way to go but without one I am guessing it would have to be a simpler listing with just the basics so it can be small enough and mobile enough to carry around with you.

Hey Moey,
I use an Excel spreadsheet...not entirely happy with it but it does the job now. (See below)
I know that once I have the smurfs on the website this will be my best reference but frankly taking a computer into a store and pulling up my website...well it is a bit inconvenient, I think :???:
Um, that's what Dyar did in one store :) :)

Oh I forgot to add, David has a Palm (not a hand jobby thing, which I think should only be talked about in the adults section lol) with all his comics on there and probably other smurf stuff that he uses at the smurf fairs and it is very handy.

Thank guys...that is some spreadsheet, STace...I like it

I actually finished a very very basic one tonight but seem to have lost a bag of smurfs along the way...I am blaming it on Mogli as I like to do lately :-?

I really like your spreadsheet, Stace  and I hope you don't mind but I think I will be a copycat in this case :)

Will I be going to that store, too???? that might be a real incentive to get my smurfs on my site in the next two weeks....as if that is going to happen if I know myself at all

Yes you will :D I can send you a copy of my spreadsheet so you can just customize it for your smurfs if you like - it was a lot of work lifting the pics off the net (LOL) and typing it all up. It'll save you a lot of time :-D

my solution is quite simple...
I built my homepage and took pics from every smurfs and identifying all the stuff at the pic description.
All unsorted newly bought stuff is in boxes as long I have not time to take pictures

web catalgue is the best solution because I have also the possibility to check what I have in my work.... :)

Hi Mo, not a silly question at all. :D

The reason I started building Blue Imps was for this very reason, so it would make it easier to check what I had. I have thought about making up a spreadsheet but so far I haven't got around to it.
but frankly taking a computer into a store and pulling up my website...well it is a bit inconvenient, I think
This is a problem I agree although after seeing David with his PDA at the fair last year I realised it is very possible now and probably the easiest solution. Good to hear Dyar got to check his site whilst at the toy shop, very clever thinking. :hi5:

Just remember Stace.....get Moey to search for smurfs downstairs while you go upstairs to search for smurfs :) :)

Here's a couple of pics from the shop so you know what to expect

that pinky pink guitar looks really really good on you, Dyar :D

I know you really meant upstairs for downstairs and downstairs for upstairs..... :-D

I'm building a data base in M$ Access. :)

Once all the data in entered, I can get all sorts of listings, like: what smurfs are mine and which are my brother's; order them by name, year or country, etc. :)

Think it can also save the pages as html, but I never actually tryed that.

Anyway, here's how it's currently looking. I'll probably adjust the smurf page as I get more into smurf collecting, so consider it a draft. ;)

I've currently preview place for 5 pics, one big and 4 smaller ones on the side - which may or may not link to individual smurf variation page in the future.
There are those who believe that life here began out there...

Looks very cool Sandra

It helps to keep a good record of what you have and I also find that I learn a lot more about them by doing so as well.

Good luck with it
