Hi guys, I was just wondering how many other smurf collectors actively seek out fake smurfs.
We have picked up a few along the way, most of the time not knowing they were fakes, some in big lots, others were known to be fake at the time of purchase and a couple have been bought thinking they were genuine.
Because we collect variations, finding out some were fakes was no big deal and now we have started to look for fake smurfs, especially the rare one. ;)
I would love to find out more about some of the fakes, especially the smurfs that are not based on an original figure. I find it fascinating to think people were that crazy about the smurf figures at the time, they would purchase obvious conterfeits.

Anyone else into collecting fake smurfs?

Here are a couple of my favourites.

Hi Rachel

Attom is the man to talk to about fakes as he specialises in them. I have about 5 Non Toxicos but I may be purchasing some of those ugly fakes from Attom soon......if he can part with them as he adores ugly and fake smurfs. I told him he should do a book one day as there isn't a lot of info on fakes, yet they are a fascinating part of the hobby and I wouldn't mind learning more myself.

I am sure my good friend Attom can assist with any help you may need.

Yes, Rachel - Attom is definitely the man to ask! He is also a great smurf detective...let him know what you're looking for and he'll find it on ebay for you :-D

I just bourght this "Fake" - Fix and Foxi

http://i15.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/2f/1a/c3_1_b.JPG

How many of these are around, who makes these how can you tell this one is a fake?

Hi Papa, it is very difficult to tell who makes them and how many are around because most people don't admit to making fake ones. :-(

I hope you didn't spend too much.

15 pounds....how can I tell if this one is a fake?

Postby Rachel » Thu Aug 05, 2004 3:20 pm
To be honest Papa, I have no idea how to tell it's fake. I have only seen a real one.
Is the fix foxi on the front a sticker?

I am assuming you knew it was a fake before you bought it.

Hi Papa Smurf!

The picture is taken a little from the side. It is easier to see what is wrong if you show it from the front + the text inside the sheet.

Not all fakes have a sticker glued on. Some are actually painted. Sometimes they look so real that I can't tell just by a picture, but I can try. I have the real one here so I can compare.

If you need my help, just email me your pictures:) !

Having had a good look at a couple of pics of real ones I have spotted quite an obvious difference with yours. Forgetting about markings, the text inside and whether or not it is a sticker or painting on the front, the fix foxi you have bought looks like there is a word in between the fix foxi on the front, und or and?

There should be no word only &.

...and the text on the outside looks wider in that angle. What does it say inside the sheet?

(I thought the "UND" in the middle was some dirt :D !)

Hello there, Simon loves collecting fake smurfs. He tends to look for fake variations of the original rarer smurf pieces he has. I also have a couple of fake variations of smurfs holding toothpaste tubes si got me for my birthday (being in the dental trade ) ive got lots of dental smurfies holding toothbrushes. I no longer take them to work tho' as my collegues take them off my desk and hide them. Often on top of door frames which i can't reach. I work with a bunch of mean smurf pinchers. :x lucie

Hi Lucie

I was just brushing up on what you said in that plaque above about you being a dentist and I have often thought about becoming one myself as I would enjoy doing something that I could really sink my teeth into. I am doing legal work at the moment and before that I have done TV & media jobs but all these have just been like fillings until I found the wisdom to do what I really want.

My friend Deum is a dentist so I can't post his picture here but he drills me all the time about how good his job is. We have been doing a fair bit of bonding lately but I think our relationship is decaying as he has the nerve to brag about how much money he earns. I just say "...so Deum" or "bite me". He also has this outlandish green fluorescent car he calls the fluro ride and to cap it off he plays loud music out of it which I hassle him about for being bubble gum music.

From now on I will always have a check up to see if you have written any more on the subject and I will paste any news on how my new direction is going.

Dyar

PS - I have a tooth at the moment I call Lucie.

PPS - ....oh and Lucie.....please forgive me for filling the above cavity with waffling crap....I am so sorry.

Hi there Dyar, We will forgive you for waffling , we've been in hysterics reading your posting. Im afraid i will have to over rule your assumption i am a dentist. I am merely a dental nurse and practice manager. I don't pull teeth just the staff and dentists in too line. I think i may have to trade in my car tho' i love the sound of a flouro ride , a white one with go faster minty stripes ! It will definately get me noticed around our little town . Now Dyar you remember to brush and floss before you go to bed , i don't want to hear that your having trouble with my name sake lucie tooth. Remember :-D a clean tooth's a happy tooth !. ( i cant believe i just put that ) ha ha Little lucie.
