Pez

Postby Gerda » Wed Aug 29, 2007 5:18 pm
I was looking through my smurf pez dispencers and found something interesting. All my pez either where made in Austria, yugoslavia or they just don't have a country marking (that I can see anyway) I was wondering if there are any other pez out there that where made in different places, I'm not asking where they where sold as I know they where sold world wide, just what the country markings are on them. Does anyone know of any other country's these where made in? :-?

I can remember I sold some PEZ dispenser in original box (the best before date was something about 1984) and they were all made in Austria..
and i was stating this is only for collecting not for eating :)

I'll have a look at mine later.

Are you interested only in infos about smurf pez or pez in general as my kids have loads of different ones.

Just the smurf pez as I find it interesting where they where made.
BTW does anyone have the no feet pez? What is the difference on those compared to the ones that have the feet?

Hi Gerda, I've only got 2.

The first is Smurfette from the older series (thanks Dyar :D ) with the following markings:-
US PATENT
3 942 683
MADE IN AUSTRIA

Peyo 1987 (on her hat)

The second is Brainy from the later set:-
U.S. PATENT
4.966.305

PEYO 1997 (on his hat)

both Pez have feet.

Thanks tojo,
Mine are the same as yours. Interesting to see the one with only a patent number does not have an actuall country marking (except the us patent part)

Hi Gerda, I will try and check my Pez items when I get a minute. I have to admit, off hand I know nothing about their markings. :D

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

Hi Gerda,

At the Brussels smurf fair I bought a Pez Smurfette for my daughter as a small present. I was sure that it was the same as the one I had but after comparing them when I got home there are lots of differences. The markings on the hat are the same. But that's it. The one I just bought is 'Made in Jugoslavia' whereas mine is 'Made in Austria'. The other markings are identical. Here are the other differences:-

Austria face: large printed on eyes & lashes.
Jugoslavia face: smaller eyes painted on, mouth has a tongue.

Austria opening for sweets: white
Jugoslavia opening for sweets: red (so it looks like a tongue)

The 'PEZ' writing on the two smurfettes are the other way round too.

When Mrs Tojo gets back from her holiday in Turkey next week, I'll take some pictures if you like (she has the camera).

Thank you Tojo,
Those are quite the differences. I never looked too closely at the pez before but now I'm starting too as they are so different.

Here are the photos I've taken. On each one the Austrian pez is on the left & the Jugoslavian one is on the right. The differences are quite remarkable.

You have beautiful finger's Tojo :smitten:

Oh sorry, the pez, yeah the difference is easy, even for me to tell, i like the Austrian one best, its brighter and looks cleaner in appearance too :D

i agree, but I think I like the eyes on the Yugoslavian one more! The other eyes are too small and look almost scary.

Thanks tojo :D

Hehe, that's interesting...They were produced in Austria and Yugoslavia? :D I also don't like the Yugoslavian's colour very much... :)
I am a complete newbie according to the PEZ smurfs, but I own four PEZ smurfs (three different: Gargamel, Papa, smurfette). They have only the "U.S. PETENT" marking. The smurfette e.g. has a pink "body" and looks totally different from the ones at your photos, Tojo. You mentioned an older and a newer set...Are the Austrian and the Yugoslavians from the old and my smurfette from the newer set?

Postby Tojo » Wed Oct 24, 2007 7:51 am
They sound like the later ones if they only have US Patent (see my post further up). The later ones have heads a bit more like the ones in the cartoons too, slightly larger.

Looking again Gerda, i do agree about the eyes, maybe a cross between both heads would give us an ideal pez :) :) :D
