I had very nice day out and about in Franklin, TN, which is just outside of Nashville.
I didn't know it until yesterday, but Franklin is apparently not only a rich town, but also a very historic one as one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War was fought there, pretty much on the back porches of the towns people. That fight meant the end of the Confederate Tennessee army who lost about 7000 that evening (the union lost 2500 soldiers). You can still visit the two houses where the bulk of the battle happened, but we didn't go inside yesterday. We did visit the plantation that got caught in the middle as well and I was surprised how "small" it was compared to today's houses that are around it. I always figured plantations were those huge houses you see in the movies
Anyway, I finally got to stand in front of a real plantation
Here is the history of this plantation. I am not sure if it is readable or not but thought I post it for those of you interested in history
Next to it is a huge Confederate Army cemetary for which the family donated land and kept it up until their own dead
Franklin was a nice town, and not like your usual Southern old town that is usually full of "Southern Pride" stuff
When I came home, I had a huge envelope in my mail box...with those stamps on top...I knew instantly I'd love this package. Thank you Nance, your timing was perfect..and you are correct..I love it
