I was checking a Bullyposter I have and have a question for you.

For some reason Bully splited their smurfsortiment in 2.
One sortiment with articlenumbers starting 1010/1 ( Schleichnumber 20068 Kicker).
And one sortiment starting with articlenumber 1010/500 ( Schleichnumber 20001 Papa).

Is this because Bully started with the kicker themselves and just picked the older ones and numbered them in an own serie.

Bully numbered the schleichnumbers 20001 to 20027 with the numbers 1010/501 to 1010/527. They also had Smurfette with article 1010/500.

The Schleich ones between 20028 and 20067 was never made by Bully, right??? Except for 20034 Smurfette with articlenumber 1010/500 and 20043 Digger with articlenumber 1010/13.

Bully made all the smurfs between 20068 Kicker and 20121 Skater, right??? And none of the ones after this???

And as you see on the posters and on this picture they sold the minismurfs both in the boardgame and as loose smurfs. For the ones who didn´t knew this already.

it is actually a big poster with Asterix, Sniks, Tintin, Lucky Luke etc. I just folded it to make a better picture of the smurfs.

The thing is that I would like to know when and which smurfs were made by Bully.

I am just thinking load:
It seems they stopped around 1981 with the skater( 20121). Am I right??? Are there any smurfs made by Bully after this??

But when did they start and why did they gave the Kicker( 20068) number 1. Did they start the production 1978? I don´t think so? Did they start a new sortiment then after the first 27 smurfs and Schleich started their own with the Gardener 1979???

I must add this also,

as you see on the poster Johan, Pewitt and Gargamel was made by Bully also. The Gargamel I think they mean is the old form of 20232, in this case the years in the DSK is very wrong!! And must be because Bully didn´t make any smurfs 1992.

So the old form of this was made in the 70s by Bully, right??? And then by Schleich as a super and then by Schleich as a normal?

Great poster Andre.

You are right on a couple of things: no Bully molds after fallen ice skater and no supers at all.

My interpretation of things with the license to make smurfs is :

1965-1973: Schleich
1973-1980 : Bully
1977-present day : Schleich

I think your poster is from 1977.

The numbering seems to indicate which company made the molds:

Top numbering starting with kicker 2 are all BULLY molds
Bottom numbering are all SCHLEICH molds.

Not sure why it starts with kicker as the quack was the first made Bully mold....

The only thing I am not sure about is that when in the period 1973-1976 only Bully smurfs were released...did the Schleich molds get released with a Bully mark??? Probably not as I have never seen one..obviously all the Bully molds after 1980 had the name Bully scratched off and Schleich put on instead...maybe they didn't do it for technology reasons I don't know.

Gargamel, Johan and Peewit are all Bully molds and I think are at the end of the numbering because they are not regular smurfs-I do not think there is any other significance than that. Bully gargamel was never "re-released" when Schleich started the numbering scheme and was thus left out.


The most beautiful molds are the Bully protos that were made to replace the existing Schleich molds but were never released. They are much better than Schleich's and it is a tragedy they did not get to the market. For example: prisoner, normal, papa, drummer etc.....Christy has some on her site and also pics of others.

The only 2 that did make it from Bully AFTER the original Schleich mold was on the market were smurfette and Astro.

The poster is from 1977.

I have one from 1976 also. And the intresting thing is that they seems to add new smurfs in both sortiments. Both the series starting with 1010/1 and the one with the old Schleich starting with 1010/500.

So it seems they made their own molds and released these and at the same time used the Schleich molds and released them as Bully smurfs??? But in two separate series.

I will take a picture so you can compare tomorrow Martin.

I will try to go through my normalsmurfs soon so your knowledge will be very useful for me know, since I don´t know so much about them but are very willing to learn and question things.

I have 3 bully posters, but only 2 with smurfs.

This one from around 1978 I believe don´t have any smurfs on them. But on the other side are many other characters with articlenumbers, they made then.

The reason I believe it is from 1978 is this part with the german world cup player Rainer Bonhoff. He is posing with many different Mickey Mouse players painted in the world cup colours, or not. Depending how you translate this: " die lustigste Mannschaft der Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft 1978". Could mean both real country colours or just that they are painted in different colours. And since the picture is only in black and white I can´t tell.??

Wait a minute, it also says like this: "- Mich gibt´s in den originaltrikots aller Nationalmannschaften, die in Argentinien dabei sind!". So this means they are painted in the nationalcolours of the teams playing in Argentina 1978. Brings back memories of the books and stickers I collected then. And players like Mario Kempes, Ardiles, Arie Haan, Rud Krol etc. I was cheering for Holland in that final.

Maybe the smurf-kicker also could have been painted like this then????

So if I look at this bully added these smurfs 1977.

Their own mold: Painter, Clown and Skier.

Schleich molds: Guitar, Latern, Swimmer, Sitting and Thinking.

If I take the information you gave me and the ones I get from the posters the most logical thing would be something like this:( and then the years in the DSK are wrong on some of them)

1973/74: Bully releases these 10 from their own molds: Kicker( 1973 on smurfmold), Wilder, Harp, Flying, Trumpet, Cook, King, Quacker, Courting and Naughty.

And then something like this:

1974/75: Beer, Laughing, Bisquit, Tyroler, Shy, Hammer.
1975/76: Handstand, Cushion, Present, Axe, Traveller.
1976/77: Painter, Clown and Skier.

And as you see on the posters all old smurfs from papa 20001 to Thinking ( 20027) was sold by Bully also but using the Schleichmolds according to Martin. Do you think they erased the Schleich-marking on these?

Those additions seem in keeping with the Maier preiskatalog Andre. It all seems correct.

I do not think the mold name was changed to Bully from the Schleich mold as we would of seen one by now. Not sure why they didn't. Maybe it was too expensive to do in the 1970's????????

The other alternative is that Schleich kept releasing their molds but only Bully made NEW molds in those years. I presume Peyo must have said if a poster was going to show some smurfs then they had to show them all.....?

I cheered for Holland too.......Rob Rensenbrink hit the post in the last minute, absolute tragedy.

Bonhof had the hardest shot ever: 1978 European cup semi vs Liverpool-his free kick nearly decapitated Ray Clemence the goalkeeper!!!!

I forgot to write that my Schleich wilder also has 1973 as moldyear, so my guess is that both Kicker and Wilder was among the first ones Bully made themselves. They could off course have waited selling these to but it seems as likely that they were sold from the start also.

And Martin,

I remember Arie Haan from Holland as one of the most hardshooting also. He made some very nice longdistance shoots I remember.

Schleich used Bully molds when Bully stopped with the smurfs. And as you said Martin, these are pretty obvious to spot. Like on this smurf.

They just "blocked" the Bully-marking on the smurf on top and marked it with Schleich instead.

But on these smurfs. Sitting smurf and Thinking smurf.

These looks the same to me.
