Yes I also think it is a great idea!!

And thanks to all members posting and the knowledge we together have regarding smurfs we can get the best guide possible so faar.

When I wasn´t a member I search on internet and found a lot of intresting sites.

So I am thinking like this: If you put the smurf PVC reference guide in a non membersection. Also non members can see such a guide exists. The PVC threads should still be in the membersection though. And only for members to see.

This way I guess you would also find it if you for example search google and write smurf PVC reference guide?? :o

Just a thought though??

Could be a great way to get more smurfcollectors to this site and also more pictures!!! :-D

I hope nobody minds, but I locked the actual guide thread, so that it will stay a guide and the links are easy to find.

Feel free to leave any comments and suggestions in this thread :D

OK by me Moey. It would really get cluttered with all the comments.

Excellent work Andre and Moey. It is really easy to find the smurfs now instead of scrolling through that section. Thank you both and everyone who has contributed to each smurf!!!!!

Thank you

Credit really belongs to Andre, who not only started to investigate each smurf but also shares his results with us and puts out a new thread for each and every smurf.

I am trying to come up with a way to link older threads to the new ones. This forum has a lot of threads about the different smurfs and most of these threads hold different information as well. It would be a shame if they stay lost in the wilderness of the forum.

I don't have the time right now (busy working on my own smurfs and getting ready for vacation) but when I have more time I was thinking about putting links to the old threads in the new ones...can anybody else think of a better way of linking the threads? :?

It's good to have an overview over Andrés great threads. :D
...can anybody else think of a better way of linking the threads? :?
For me, the perfect way would be a "global" smurf website where everyone could register. There would be a page for every smurf and everyone could load up a photo of a smurf (if not existing already), his markings and other information. Other members could add new variations or make a check mark that they own him (maybe even the possibility to rate every smurf for example after rarity, price and popularity).
So, you could see the collection of every member and maybe every member could not just mark that he owns that smurf, but also that he would trade him or searches him. Then, it could automatically be looked by he website whether someone needs a smurf that someone else would trade.
It would be some kind of an interactive, expandable smurf catalogue including the possibility to look at other collections and to trade smurfs.

Of course, these are just crazy thoughts. :)

Nevertheless, it would be possible, if you have a lot of time. For example, I have just put all my smurfs in a data base and changed my web site. Now all the smurf pages are being generated automatically including markings etc (not online yet).

That is a great thought Simon! :-D

And I think some parts are already in the catalogue we have started. Members can add pictures, remove pictures, and have this nice interactive 2-way communication regarding them. But I believe there has to be some "control" over them, because otherwise you would have 400 pictures in each thread very fast, and collectors would just skip reading them. Even in these threads it get a bit carried away sometimes. :D But so faar I think it is better that many collectors post many pictures so we gat as many versions and info as possible. :-D But if there were 200 members online showing there versions of smaller paintdifferences, moldshapes etc. it could be really large threads.

The tradeissues could be linked to each thread??? :-?

But I think you are on the right track Simon and all the things you are saying is possible, so let´s keep going.

The biggest problem now seems to be the problem for new members to register?? :-? :(

The problem with that Andre, is that at one time this board became a prime target for fake signups, spambots and spam posts. All the admin team used to spend litterally hours deleting spam and banning fake signups. it got so bad that I had to introduce a way of stopping the spambots registering on the forum. Unfortunately it seems that people are finding the signup process too difficult now. I could take off the signup spambots checker, but I fear we would once again be inundated with posts for drugs and dating adverts.
Long, long ago, deep in the forest, there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived. They called themselves the Smurfs. They were good.

Not a bad idea, but i think the forum is already something like this.
You can al post info and pictures from your own...........
And swap info and ask for advise.

Greetings Tintin

A lot of these are already discussed in older threads which is why I am trying to think of a good way of linking the older threads to the newer ones :D

An interactive database is a good idea, but not possible with this forum as we would quickly run out of space. I do believe somebody tried to create a database (not linked with the forum but advertised on here)...not sure what became of it.

I agree and understand this Steve!! :D

But when I checked the forum as a non member I can´t find anywhere were I sign up as a member? If I click on register a writing about the terms for posting pictures etc. shows. And then I have to choose between agree with these terms or not. If I agree a messege shows saying: That username is already used.??? :-?

So if this is the case I tend to agree with the thing you wrote:" Unfortunately it seems that people are finding the signup process too difficult now". The signup process is too difficult now because it is not existing???

But maybe it is just me doing things wrong?? Happend before, if you ask my wife, very often!!

Does it say anywhere how you should do if you want to become a member?

As I told you before, we tried to fix this bug, but nobody (not even the hosting company) was able to help us, so unfortunately we have to use this work around. I know it's very discouraging for non members to sign up but as of right now there is no other fix.

I hope you don't mind me saying this, but if you have more questions, maybe we can take it offline or chat about it in the thread above..just so we keep this thread on topic :D

One thing I have been thinking about to keep so many pic's from being put there. is to have just a link there that will take you to another forum. Once the admins or who ever decides that a pic warrants going into that thread then the admin can add it to the thread.
