To me it seems like many of these smurfsads with Kwatta, Kelloggs, etc don´t necessarily mean they were connected to the PVC figurines. Looks more like comicstrip ads with smurfs. But like the Kellogg ads between 1965 and 1967 they might have given away some smurfs also. But after reading the Schleich historybook I do believe they were made for BP as give aways at first.

Maybe Schleich used the same or other smurfs in the kelloggboxes later?? It says in the book that" the enormous popularity of the figurines took both BP and Schleich by surprise" and therefore took the next logical step. Professional marketing and merchandising of the Schloumpfes.

The first TV appearence was in 1968 in Germany. ZDF. But because at that time TV´s was not that common the impact was not as big as later in the 80s.

True! I think too,that they didn`t give smurf figures with Kwatta products, but one could collect smurf images and keep these images in a special album.

Yes André, you could be right that BP was the first to give away smurf figures?
In Holland, they were immensly populair, think of all the special dutch BP smurf items. Lots of people still remember this and kept these smurfs for decades.But this was a bit later,early seventies?, so I`m really curious which figures were given away in 1965

The book is about Schleich and "made" by Schleich. It tells about the history from 1935 to today. It is divided into chapters.

1935-1945
1946-1964
1965-1985
1986-1990
1991-2006
2007-2010

The chapter about the years 1965-1985 is mostly about smurfs. The smurf-era.

And they tell us that they started with the smurfs because BP asked them to do these. So it is about the first Schleichsmurfs made in 1965. And the reason Schleich started making smurfs was the order from BP.

About Kelloggs: I found some info that is probably very different then what Alan will reveal, because it can all be found on the net.
I found a site that gives exact info about the french/belgian magazines and the publications in it.
Because it seemed nice to have such an old cartoon with smurfs in it, I bought an old belgian Spirou ( the equivalent from the french Tintin journal) It`s from 1966 and like Joaquin already told and showed us, it has the kelloggs add and a smurf story.

But the smurf from the kelloggs box from 1966 says clearly ( in dutch and french) that there is a smurf in the box

so, it could be very well that these smurfs are the same as the BP from 1965 and it almost has to be that these are the lovely dupuis smurfs.
Does someone in Belgium remember this or know this?

it could be the Dupius smurfs or the Schleichsmurfs.

As told before these ads appeared already in 1965, so maybe they used the same smurfs for both BP and Kelloggs??

And let´s hope any belgian collector remember this.
