It is hard to see if it is darkblue or black, but the painted mouth looks like Angry??

I assume when playing with them and bending them they easily gets broken with age. That´s maybe why we don´t see many of them??

Looks really great though and when thinking they were already made one year after the birth of the smurfs it makes them even more fantastic!!

We talked time ago about Dupuis/Bully/Kellogs¿?¿?¿ smurfs and it is really interesting to see those pictures...Thanks Lia, André and the "helpful" big collector...This is the pre-history of smurfs!!!!And I am happy to have see those pics...

I have the Spirou from summer 1959 when the first smurfs comic were sold. But I don´t have the mini-recit for it. But I wanted to show that these ads for the latex figurines can be found in these magazines. This is the ad for the Gaston figurine Lia showed in this thread.

As seen in the ad they also tells us these figurines were sold in places from libraries to toystores.

Hi André. I have some pictures and info, will upload them later.
As far as I know these figurines were made by EX.IN.CO for Dupuis.

I have this info in french about Pirlouit figurine:
Il s'agit du latex de Pirlouit, facétieux comparse de Johan des célébrissimes aventures imaginées par le regretté Peyo. Le latex est en très très bel état de conservation. Les couleurs sont bien vives (le visage est bien rose-orangé comme à l'origine (le bout du nez est infimement frotté, il faut être dessus pour le voir). Les mains sont un peu brunies et légèrement durcies (je précise qu'elles ne sont pas cassantes et ne s'effritent absolument pas). La figurine mesure 9,5 cm et est fabriquée par Ex-In-Co. Il y est fait référence dans l'ouvrage de Philippe Mouvet, Les Trésors de Spirou. Elle est rarissime, surtout dans un tel état de conservation, qui plus est avec son sachet d'origine, lui aussi en fort bel état. Je l'ai juste délicatement extraite de son sachet et l'y ai remise aussitôt les photos prises. En somme, hormis les mains très légèrement durcies, une délicate palpation révèle que la figurine est restée parfaitement souple.

So it seems these figurines were made between 1956 and late 60s by the company Ex In Co. They made 43 figurines ( among them 30 of the most important ones in the Spirou magazine).

In the late 60s they had to stop making these because of new regulations regarding toys. The risk of injuries because of the metal inside was to big.

The material was also very bad because of oxidation. They bacame fragile and fell apart, unless you stored them in the bag and in a dark place.

Most of these were only made in one variation by this company, but Pewitt was made in 2 variations, both 10 cm( "A l'exception de Pirlouit,
que l'on peut trouver avec une houpette d'une forme plus carrée". Does it mean the hair is different??). Also Johan had a accessorie, a sword.
So this company only made these 3 smurfs.
Dupuis must later have had another company making the later dupuissmurfs??

Probably when Ex In Co was not allowed to make these smurfs anymore, Dupuis asked another company to make new figurines, like the keychains.

And also the 15 cm smurfs made like squeeky toys with a hole in the back of the head, must also have been made by another company.

I have this Angry. Is this the one they made 1965?? or is it later smurf?

I'm a bit confused right now, I don't know what were first, Exinco or Dupuis. Maybe Exinco did figurines for Dupuis? I suppose so.
Exinco did 3 smurfs, one (or two?) Pirlouit, one (or two?) Johan and one Benoît, look at the images.

Then Dupuis made (or other company made for them) other smurf figurines. Some little ones, the ones who are soft and the big ones.

For the moment here you have the Exinco images, I'm going to find the Dupuis images and upload them soon.

You are correct about Dupuis.

Dupuis is just like Peyo. Dupuis is a editor for comics and Peyo is the creator of the smurfs. Nobody of these 2 make any toys themselves. They ask other companies to make them for them. And exinco made the first smurfs ever made for Dupuis.

Dupuis later had other companies making smurfs for them, just like peyo have many companies making smurfs with the marking Peyo.

So actually it is a bit wrong naming these Dupuissmurfs, it would be like saying peyosmurfs! From now on I will call them Exincosmurfs made for Dupuis.

But in the Peyo book, Peyo tells us that during the time Bully was making smurfs for Peyo Dupuis was no longer intrested in making figurines. So sometime during 75 to 79 Dupuis stopped with the smurfs as far as we know now, that is??

Here you have all the Dupuis figurines I know. The small ones, the keychains, the soft ones, the 3 garden ones and the other big one.
There are colour variations on the 3 garden ones.

I have a possible info from a eBay seller from 2007:
the company who made the 30 cm smurf (the normal one) was a spanish company called SICCA.
yes it was sicca (spanish maker) for dupuis.but at that time,copyrights and all that stuff was rather loose and the name of the maker was not necessary on the object itself.

Since you are from Spain I think it is easier for you to get the information? I tried a fast search on Google but did not find any info.

Reagrding the garden smurfs they are marked W germany. If any of you have these. The numbers Fram wrote about, are these printed on these smurfs? Then the the marking looks alot like the company Goebel??? But many ones are possible??
