Hi again,

I bought a few CNT´s from Spain because I only had 2 before. I bought used ones and directly from Spain because I get a bad feeling about the ones you see on ebay germany in mint condition???

Joaquin told us this story which seems correct:

- time ago I contacted with the daughter of one of the biggest distributor of pvc figures at Spain and she told me the story she had always listened at home. A couple of owner of a big store of toys at Barcelona travelled to Germany every year to visit toys fairs. At germany they saw smurfs for their first time (early 80's) and bought them to sell at their store. It was a UNEXPECTED succes and they decided to become manufacturer (comic figuras s.l) and tried to get the license (no luck for them)They built a little factory (it was not hard to get the machines at catalonia, where they lived. It was the spanish region with the biggest number of factories of toys) and the began to make smurfs and others figures without license and even without their own marking at them (CF). They made not only smurfs but other figurines without license. The big problem for them began when Yolanda (who had the rights for distribute schleich smurfs at Spain) brought a lawsuit and won the action. Meanwhile the action, they manufactured about 60 different smurfs (she knows this because his father kept one piece of all the figurines he sold from the factory of comics figuras and she keeps yet the collection (she tried to sell them to me but it was expensive, I only wanted smurfs (ant the collection had more tham 800 pieces) and most of 60 smurfs I had yet at my collection). When Yolanda won the action they stopped with smurfs and looked for other license as Disney. Both Yolanda figures (schleich) and comics figuras s.l (the smurfs called for us cnt) were normally sold at the same stores.

Three/four years ago, I asked to the owner of the store where I usually bought smurfs when I was a child, why they sold smurfs with and without markings. And he was who told me that they bought smurfs from Yolanda (with markings Schleich) and from comics figuras (cnt). That fact explains that I have schleich smurfs and cnt smurfs since I was 8-9 years old and all of them where bought exactly at the same store"

The question for you is.

Among the smurfs I got I found this chef. Hard material and painted like the other CNT-chefs I have seen on websites.

He has this very clear marking. And it is exactly the same as the number 1 cavity which Schleich made. This goes very well with the story Joaquin tells us, that they copied the german figurines.

Are there many with these clear markings?

Good to know...I don't have any with "clear" markings :D

One thing with CNTs is that about all (at least that's my observation) are a tiny bit smaller than genuine Schleich smurfs. This is makes sense when you consider that they more than likely copies the mold off the Schleich smurfs they found in Germany.

Hi Maureen

Well a clear marking is a big word.
It is clear there is a marking on the smurf is a better saying perhaps.

But like i wrote i have to use a ladder to get these ( no joke it's true :-D ) so it will take some time for me.

Another intresting thing is the softer spanish fakes.

As you see here they copied the Hongkongmold. They forgot to remove the letter W on the panties. So in this case these fakes were made after adding the W Berrie, meaning 1983 or after.

So these fakes were made after the CNT´s I assume?

Hi Andre

Do you mean all Spanish fakes, i thought you were talking only about the cnt smurfs ???
( the one with a little golden sticker )
I will look tomorrow for you.

Correct Frank,

I mean markings on CNT´s. :D

I just got sidetracked when I found this clear marking "W" on the softer spanish fake, with so obvious connection to the W Berrie marked smurfette.

It seems the CNT´s were made until around 1982??? Off course still many around after this to buy for many years, but when looking at the figurines they copied it seems they stopped around that year?? :-? About 60 were made, right??

And then the softer fakes were made after this if someone wants to have the chronology of them??? :-?

no, not 60, I estimate between 90 and 100 were made

Lia

Thanks Lia.

so more than Joaquin wrote. Which was the last figurine, I mean with the higest number?

Another thing regarding the marking on the chef. I thought that maybe this is just a german smurf with removed paint and repainted to look like a CNT??? :-?

But when comparing with Lias with the sticker it has the thicker parts on the exact same places as Lias. I mean on the left heal and right toe. So they definatly seems to have been made from the same mold?? Harder material also.

Hi Andre

I am busy looking for other markings.

I found a 20012 with orange trousers.........one no markings at all, the other a 3 on one foot and Peyo and Schleich-emblem on the other.

Then a clown 20033 a Schleich-emblem under his foot and on the side W.Germany and Peyo.

And a keizer 20046 it says made in Hongkong and Peyo........ i have a few but not on every one a marking ..........

And a sleepwalker with W.Germany under his foot............ otherwise i can't find any more.

Lia, do you mean 90-100 color variations...or 90-100 different molds?

the number is quite shocking and challenging...I thought I had about half of them..but I am not even close.... :)
