I don´t have the Schurrenhof promo. The icecreamsmurf smurf with the yellow flag.

If you have pictures of this one I would like to see them.

I believe it was made for some event in the town Schurrenhof, which is located very very near Schwäbish Gmünd. This town has a "freizeitpark" ( amusement park) with smurfs also. Off course this don´t have to have anything to do with the promo since I have no idea when the park was built. Do anyone know when this promo was made or have information regarding it?

My guess anyway is that the promo is connected to the town Schurrenhof!! But how?? Probably made around 1980??? Or is it a later promo?

I think it also could have been a early promo, but I am not sure. They could have used the early mold with the hole for this later also?

Maybe some of the german collectors remember or have information about Schurrenhof? It could be a early variation too, since it seems Schleich could make promos before 1980?? Also in Germany??

And also like with the Waldbaur and Bully, the distance between the factories and the locations of these "companies" tells us that during the early years it could have been of intrest for the neigbours to have these made?? Or it could be just a coincidence that the smaller companies nearby uses the smurfs as promos??

I have found a small article in the SCCI Letter 10 from fall 1988, they write:

"Welcome into smurf playland, this town with smurfs. Take a round about ride along this smurf railway..."

Look at the pictures.

Unfortunately, I don't know, when these smurfs have been published, maybe in 1988?

I know that smurfs were used early on for promotional purposes..not just because of what we learned in recent times, but because my first encounter with smurfs was the huge Papa Smurf Plush that my mother won for me at the Stuttgarter Volksfest in the mid 70s. It would make sense that Bully and also Schleich used smurfs (as they are using other figures) to promote other companies as well as the smurfs, especially before they became so hugely popular thanks to the cartoon series in the 80s.

It would be interesting to know when Schurrenhof was established...this would tell us probably when this particular promo was released

Great that you found it in the SCCI also Benny!! I had no idea that they mentioned it. Then we know it existed 1988. For me I would say the smurf was made before 1988 though. I have to check the article in the SCCI letters. Great info Benny!!

Here you see that it is very close to Schwäbish Gmünd where Schleich is located. The blue "pointer" is where Schurrenhof is located.

Hi Lia,

it depends on when they were released. With promos it is always hard to say. The ice lolly was sold from 1980-1986 and then later from 1990-1997. But the promos are never in the Schleichcatalogues. I am sure this smurf started as a promo because the first variation made had a hole in the hand.

And since they talk about this promo in the SCCI letter is 1988 this means it was made before the CE marking existed, so the variation you have is correct Lia. Does a variation with CE and hole in the hand exist? I have not checked. Probably someone else here knows this.

The marking used in 1988 were probably the same as the early one??

That is most likely the correct marking on the Schurrenhof promo.

Around 1988-1990 they started with the black dots, not sure exactly when.

Since this was made before 1988 according to the SCCI, Schleich probably used the same molds as they already had for the Schöller with the hole. And within EC they did not use dots yet. So that marking seems the correct one.

But if anyone else have other markings they also can be correct, so let us know if you have!! On many smurfs many variations are possible.

Another thing.

In the SCCI it says that Schurrenhof is the village and Schlumpfhausen is the name of the park. Do anyone know if Schurrenhof is a village in Germany?? I have tried to search for it and found got a lot of hits, but hits also could mean names of campingsites, parks etc so is Schurrenhof a park or a village??

Schurrenhof could just be the name of the piece of land where the park was built. A Hof is another word for a yard or farmyard so perhaps it was once a farm converted into a fun park with animals etc.

There's something similar to us called Lochmühle which used to be a farm with a mill which is a similar idea with lots of animals but also lots of rides etc.

do you know if there is a village called Schurrenhof or as you say just a name used a short time for a park? In the SCCI it says it is a village?? But I guess then it would be easy to find. ??

Regarding the year I assume they made this when the smurf-era was on its peak, meaning around 1985/86. The SCCI letters they are always a bit behind the things happening in Europe, which is understandable. During a time when we used letters instead of emails. So it could be that the park was made a few years or more before 1988. Off course 1988 also could be correct, but my guess is a few years before??

then the information in the SCCI is correct. And then they then called the place Schlumpfhausen.

That could be very likely since they very well could have changed the name when the smurfs were not that populair anymore. In 2006( probably a long time before, though??) they could have changed the name to just "Spiel- und Freizeitpark Schurrenhof"?
