Does anybody have any information about Brass smurfs? I think they are from Canada, and I also think we had some information about them on here but I can't find it. I received my first ones today (can post pictures after work) and would love to learn more about them :?

Brass?? Sounds intresting! :D

You don´t mean the pewtersmurfs??
One funny thing with the pewtersmurfs are that they seems to be based on the Schleichmolds! :-D

Maureen,

it seems a company called Riverside Brass made these smurfs. As you say a canadian company. Mushroom village talked about this.

It seems they were fakes Maureen.

This is the information from the mushroom village:

"I had emailed the (still family owned) company years ago, asking about the history and why they made them, and then later stopped. At first, I received a very angry and suspicious email asking "why I want to know this", and "who I was". I explained that I was a collector and wanted to know more.

The contact, who was identified as the President of the company, explained that they made them for a short time, until IMPS/Peyo found out and ordered them to stop immediately. You see, they didn't have permission to make or sell these. After some legal battles and lost money, Riverside Brass discontinued making these brass Smurfs. (I have since lost this email - sadly)

I was fortunate enough to find one at a flea market, and bought it for $2. I would say it is really my only "unique" Smurf collected."

Actually these brass smurfs could have the same history as the pewtersmurfs??

Do we know IMPS or Peyo approved them? I know I have seen posters of these with written peyo, and I think they looks licensed. But also they are copies of Schleich and Bullysmurfs??? Why?? :-? :-D

I think the pewter smurfs are genuine...the brass ones have no markings and I knew they are fakes...still very lovely though.

Will post pictures of them tonight (my time) :)

There are also fake metal smurfs that are based on the pewter smurfs...

I have examples of the "genuine" pewters and the fake ones and will post pictures tonight :D

I got a confirmation that the thing written on the mushroom village is correct. Riverside Brass gave me this answer. :D

"That is exactly what happened.....just asked our president."

Nobody to blame though since many companies tried to get a piece of the smurfcake then.

Nope, it was free for the brass smurfs

It's a different question for the pewter smurfs but that was years ago, so I won't think about it anymore :) :)
