I don´t know if you all have seen these pictures so I wanted to show them. Maybe not new to all of you.

First the National oilympics picture with the british torchbearer. The add says that you can get him at your national station. :-D

So spring/summer 1980 for that one.

it seems that on that occation also Coca Cola had 30 different caps to collect with smurfs. Information at this site: http://www.sparehed.com/2010/12/26/the-olympic-smurfs/

It seems the pictures are the same as the ones on the swedish collectors cards from the same time. :-D

The Telethon could be dated to 1988?? What do you think?

"A Smurf Telethon

Saturday, December 3, 1988

A Smurf Telethon

Peyo drew a Smurf more for the launch of the first Belgian participation in the Telethon, the great spectacle for the benefit of charitable neuromuscular disease. The famous little guy will be the flagship of the new Belgian track of distance marathon (Telethon) of the heart that will be offered this Saturday, December 3, between 17 and 19 h 30 on Antenne 2.

A Belgian Association against Myopathies just created. It is chaired by Mr. Yves Collart, Diepenbeek and brings together parents' associations, operating in the country. Jerry Lewis Telethon founder of the United States, nearly a quarter century, is one of two honorary presidents of the new association, the other being the Prince Alexandre de Merode, vice president of International Olympic Committee .

This year, the Belgian Telethon began his career by joining in the French program. The organizers are determined to achieve, starting next year, a show in Belgium.
"

I hope the translation is readable since it was in french and I just used google translate!

One intresting thing here is that the british promo could actually not have a red dot then?? Since in 1980 the Sri Lanka factory had not opened yet! I would guess Christys and Stefans with yellow dot is a accurate one?? :o What do you think?

Unless they made new ones later for another occation??

Hi Andre

Close........there is no year in the book itself like printed in or copyright with a year, but a lot of drawings and on those it says 1989.
There is one page with a football field with a promo sign that says
Telethon 1989.

So maybe the book is from the year when they started their own Telethon in Belgium???

We actually don´t know if the smurf was made before, it could have, but most likely it would have been sold approximatly when these things happened, right? :-D

I totally agree :-D

I have some of the Belgian torchbearers & the normal one without logo but not the English one unfortunately. Maybe one day I'll find one.

It's fascinating to see all of this material featuring this smurf which is one of my favourites

The National ad reads like this:

"No matter what goes wrong in the world of sport, here's one major event that's forging ahead- the smurf Oilympics.
And first off the mark is Olympic smurf, lighting the way for all the others. Race down to your National Station for him now, so you can start collecting your own oilympic Team.
Then watch these pages for news of the competitors. Which smurf is going to take the gold? Which has the stamina to become a National hero? Which ones will be out-smurfed by the others?
Keep an eye open- it's going to be an exiting few months."

And also you can check Stefans booklet from 1980 which has this large red and white torchbearer they used for this promo, but added the british emblem on the chest!!! :-D

So this one was sold before the other sportsmurfs National got for the oilympics 1980! :D

Somewhere I have an advert for the tennis player Andre..I'll have to see if I can find it. Here is another advert.

http://www.nationalfriends.co.uk/national.htm

(sorry, couldn't seem to post the pic)
Long, long ago, deep in the forest, there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived. They called themselves the Smurfs. They were good.

Thanks Steve and Lia!!

I have been without internet at home for a few days because they have been updating the internet where I live. :( So I have only been able to use my iphone for internet the last couple of days. But now it is working again and probably when getting a new router in next week it will work even better. :-D

I will start a new thread about the facinating years 1977-1979 when a lot of things happened that explains a lot about the Schleich and Bully history and also the facts proving it!!! :-D
