Dear Moey,

I only wanted to add that Manni's thoughts are with you. He's crossing his fingers for you. :fingers:

Hi Moey,

I'm sorry to hear about this. I hope everything goes well. Thinking of you.

Thank you everybody..I am really humbled by the outpouring of support already from everybody.

Today is going to be a hard day...I am going to see the specialist to schedule the surgery and probably talk about treatment options, and I think that's when it all is going to really sink in.

I came back from the hospital yesterday.

My surgery was on Tuesday and it was a bit more extensive than first planned as the cancer had spread all over my pelvis. They opened me up to make sure nothing was on the upper abdomen.

The doctor got everything out that he saw, and sent off biopsies to see if there is cancer in any of the organs of my pelvis. Because of the extensive surgery, I had to stay in the hospital for a few days.

The pathology report came back yesterday and was better than expected. Only two of the lymph nodes they removed had cancer cells...there was no other cancer in the body. Because of those two lymph nodes, I will have to undergo extensive chemo and radiation once I am over the surgery. The treatment will take probably about 8 months, but my prognosis is more optimistic now due to my age and general health status.
The chemo should take care of the cancer cells that are floating around..and the radiation will be localized to my pelvis area to make sure any invisible cancer cells that want to settle down are killed off as well.

It's a long road ahead of me..and not one I would have chosen, but it looks a bit less scary today than it did only two days ago.

God is good...even in the midst of a monster storm.

I'm so glad the operation has gone well so far even if there was more cancer than at first expected. I hope that the chemo kills off the rest of the buggers & sends them back where they came from   :flame:

I'll be keeping you in my thoughts

Another update:

Because the cancer I have is very unusual and normally does not grow in the uterus, some of the doctors who reviewed the pictures and path report suggested that Dr. D (my cancer doctor) go for a CT scan of my chest to make sure there is nothing on my lungs.

The good thing was that he had taken biopsies of the kidneys and liver and both are clear (this cancer usually grows in the kidneys).

As you can imagine, I was very nervous about this scan, even though I had received a clear x-ray three years prior to the surgery.

I had the scan done on Tuesday, and was scheduled for my first Chemo treatment today. I am actually still there waiting for the treatment to wrap up in probably another hour.

Anyway, the news of the scan today is "All is clear - there are no abnormalities on my lungs at all"

You don't know how much it meant to me to receive this good news. It looks like that this cancer really stayed locally and hopefully will be killed by the Chemo and radiation :D.

This is really good news Maureen. I've read that chemo is pretty unpleasant but I've got everything crossed that it will put paid to the cancer for good
