I got an answer from Schleich about variations of the new smurfs 2012 two weeks ago. I posted it on the blog, but I thought it could be good to post it here also since I have seen collectors asking about the medalvariations.

There will be no variations of the new smurfs. So if you see different colours on the medals they are repaints, or painters own variations, and not approved by Schleich. This could be interesting since sellers could make money on having them repainted and selling "rare" variations. So if you badly want those variations, I would sudjest that you repaint them yourself to save money??

At least so faar there will be no variations of the new smurfs according to Schleich. But, just like Frank usually do, you could find painters mistakes or variations in the shops. Those are however not "genuine"( meaning intentional) Schleichvariations.

In Sweden the smurfs are blue ( and yellow).

Also another answer I got from Schleich. Regarding the articlenumber 20735. The mystery!!! Why did they skip this number??

The answer from Schleich is this:

"This is a very interesting question. We must confess that there is no particular answer.
This number has been simply forgotten by us."

So they have not kept that number for a special smurf!!

I also asked them if the smurfs will be marked made in China or made in Germany or maybe made in Tunesia. But they told me that I will know soon when the smurfs are sold!! So wait and see for that answer.

And regarding the correct colours on the 2012 smurfs. Schleich product development tells us the only and correct colours are the ones shown on their website. Rememeber that when you see special variations!! :o

Thanks again for that information, André. They forgot the number...

I am a bit surprised that Schleich is answering you. I always heard Schleich ignores collector's questions. :) :D

I think it has to do with what questions you ask. If you start asking questions about promos from the 80s or variations from the 80s you will not get any answers. But when asking serious questions about their current figurines they many times will answer!

I also thinks it is a bit strange they "forgot" the number. Seems strange. But anyway it is good to know if they had the number saved for a special item or a already released item we have missed. :D

They may be more willing to answer questions about new or current smurfs...or they have realized since the smurf movie that there is a collector's market out there :-?

The reply about the missing number is so simply that you have to laugh...I wonder if that is the same reason for other missing numbers :)

Well,

sometimes they do mistakes Maureen! :o Like when using the same numbers on some items. So don´t judge them to hard!! We also don´t know if it is a human or a system error. Maybe the articlenumbers nowadays are given automaticly by the system and for some reason this number was already used in the system, but never actually "existed" in real life.

Not judging them at all :winks:

But I have to laugh...here we are analyzing like crazy why there is a number missing and if this means a special smurf will be released...when all the while they just missed that number for some reason.....You have to admit it's kind of funny :winks:

That can still happen..it may just not have a catalog number, like the BASF smurf and Hexalotte smurfette a couple of years ago. :D

Cheers Tintin,

I got them from World Toy Zone on ebay, which I think is linked with Toys & Hobbys. They were £16.75 each but only seem to ship to the UK. I've just seen them on Gaschers for €29,90 each. I think I will get the individual ones from Toys and Hobbys too as they seem to be the best price. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many shops at all which now sell smurfs in the UK :(

Postby Smurfysmurf » Fri May 04, 2012 3:14 pm
Thanks for posting...it's great to see that they really released them as box sets as well

Toys 'N Hobby is a good seller and the price for these seems to be fair..well done

I wonder if these Olympic smurfs will be more readily available in stores when the Olympics start...it would only make sense especially in the UK :-?
