Whilst reading some websites about Peyo, I came across this entry repeatedly:

In 1965, a black and white 90 minute animated film was made about the Smurfs, Les Aventures des Schtroumpfs. It received little attention, and not much is known about it.

But can't seem to find anything else. Does anyone know any more?

The first short animated movies of the Smurfs (the Black Smurfs amongst others) were made in 1959 / 1960. Dupuis (his editor) had an animation studio and these were amongst the first efforts.
I don't know very much about the 1965 movie (it's not Magic Flute, that's 1975), if it was for the cinema or (more likely) for TV, and what was the story. I'll try to find some more information, but the Peyo biography doesn't seem to mention it.
I do have somewhere a few very old stills (smurf drawings on transparent plastic or cells) which are probably from this 1965 movie, as the time would correspond with the style of the drawings. I haven't been able to confirm this with IMPS or with any of the old Peyo collaborators, and for the moment the cells are stored somewhere inaccessible.

Also you mention Peyo's biography. Do you know where I would be able to get a copy (or at any rate could you tell me the ISBN & Author please). I've been thinking I actually know shocking little about him & would like to know more

Thanks Fram, although in French, that's a pity. Not sure my French would be upto that. Is it interesting? How much about smurfs is there in it, dont' really know what else he did apart from smurfs?

There is a lot about the Smurfs, and loads of pictures. It's mostly about the comics, but also enough about the cartoons. Not much about the other merchadising and the PVC though...
It's about his whole life (childhood etcetera), and hiw whole career, so also all the other things he did beside Smurfs, but as he is most famous for the Smurfs, they do get a lot of attention.
Other work mentioned is Johan and Peewit (which is an essential part of Smurf history), Benoit Brisefer (Benni Bärenstark, Steven Sterk), and Poussy (Poesie, Pussycat), and some minor other stuff. A lot is about his collaborations with other artists like Franquin (from the Marsupilami) and the people in his studio. Many of those are well known in France, Belgium, and the rest of Western Europe, but not in English speaking countries.

Here it is onamazon France, in one of the two versions (the only difference is the cover drawing). For a PVC Smurf collector, I supposethis version would be nicer. I have the first version though, as it was a nice gift and I couldn't choose which one of course

I like the first cover where his head is blue.....if this was in English then I think I would really love to read more about Peyo as I don't knwo that much either.....most of the things I know come from reading posts by Fram.....but it does make me want to read up a bit more.....my worst nightmare would be going on "Who wants to be a millionaire" and the million dollar question is something about Peyo......I would be distraught if I didn't know......and then I would be hassled by all you guys for not knowing a smurf related question......the horror, the horror

I knew they ahd made (as early as 1959) some short movies (for TV) before the first attempt at a long one in 1965, but I had no idea there were German versions as well, or that they have once been available on eBay.
I have a few cells tucked away somewhere unreachable from one of those early films, but I don't know from which film they come exactly. They are just Smurf line figures, no background or colouring...
