Hi guys,

I need some help on some history smurfs. Can anyone tell me if it is normal that the paint on the hat of the history smurfs is not clean but seems kind of rough?

Hi puffuonecent, welcome aboard.

You are absolutely right that the Historical smurfs have a slightly rough texture to their hats. I don't think it is the paint that is rough, I believe it is the actual mold. I am guessing the idea was to try and show that the smurfs are wearing "proper" hats as opposed to just their normal smurf caps.

Do you know how these hitory smurfs came to be produced? Was it a particular occassion or anniversary?

Think they should produce more of these history related smurfs - find them more interestng than some others. - Who decides what kind of smurfs to produce each year ex. the halloween smurfs??

Hi Oliver, I am glad to have got rid of your fears about them being fakes. I think the historical smurfs were only released in the USA, I am not sure if it was for a particular anniverary although I totally agree that more of these types would be cool, especially international figures.

I just hope the New Zealander Smurf isn't wearing a sheep Daryl ....j/k.....they would probably do that for the Australian Smurf too so I shouldn't speak too soon.

As long as the Australian Smurf is wearing our traditional gear.....thongs (feet attire not undies), akubra hat with corks, zinc cream, esky, VB t shirt and stubbies. I'm surprised that type of genious fashion hasn't been seen more on the catwalks of London & Paris.

I have heard from various people that these Smurfs were in French stores as well. Several Dutch collectors have told me that they picked them up in stores while on holiday there.

It looks like the Macau series was France (Europe) and the HK series US.

Going back to the list I would also add Descartes and Elvis Presley. Talking about the latter it would be a great idea especially since 2008 is the 30th anniversary of his death. It would be a great tribute - a smurfy elvis.

Karen: re Elvis ...Ahem.. er yes.. I saw the ones on interfool.at and made my version from theirs. I have a stand for him but haven't worked out how to decorate it.

Puffuonecent: most of these smurfs are broken/damaged smurfs that I have helped along damaging them in ways that make them look totally different .. adding and removing bits, then painting them up.

Syd Smurf: tsk tsk tsk we have so much more in New Zealand than just sheep.. like the Cricket, League, Rugby world trophies and king kong, lord of the rings, narnia.. and okay international sheep racing, sheep olympics and sheep film festival. Maybe we are the only competitor, but it'll catch on elsewhere.

Yeah, I add my vote to the motion (even though I have no history smurfs). It would be fun to see Schleich produce eight new historicals (though with the surging popularity now in Australia I worry the smurfs would be Ned Kelly and his gang...).

If Schleich were to do Elvis Smurf, I would shriek until I fainted (preferably died). I realize his bloody house still packs in the tourists (I was even dragged there once against my will by a girlfriend's parents).
