I won this auction recently:



The package arrived at work today and since there was no one in my office I thought I would test out the squeakability of them. Of course...murphy's law......as soon as I gave one a really good squeeze and it made a loud squeak noise...one of my (very conservative) co-workers walked in to use my fax machine.....and I quickly put the smurfs under my desk

He said "sorry"
I said : "oh, I didn't say anything"

He then said: "I thought you did say something"
I replied "no I just squeaked"

He then looked at me in a really strange way (I get that a lot) and walked back out of my office.

I wasn't sure what to make of this and although I thought I should explain that..."hey, I'm just playing with my cool new squeaky smurf toys at work".....I didn't think this would really proove I was sane so I have kept quiet about it. I think he, thinks that I am a bit odd for his own liking and probably wonders what I am doing working here.

Anyway, that's been my day squeaking havoc at work so far......oh and besides being on this forum during (and not during) lunch break.

Lol - I'm the same at work Dyar..people call me papa smurf and think I'm a fruitcake I wish I'd been there to see that..isn't it always the way when you think the coast is clear..in walks someone

Haha.. The sqweaky toys look well worn and indeed "fully naked" Dyar!!!!

I'm the same except I usually show them the qwerky new offerings from the post.. I have a regular "show and tell" with all the cute females in the lab.. its like a ritual where I humiliate myself infront of various boring sane people. Yet I know they enjoy it.

It's good to know I'm not the only one that gets those types of looks at work.

They cleaned up ok actually after a bit of scrubbing. I added them to the site along with the markings for all of the squeaky toys which may come in handy later on. I plan to put the markings for all of the items eventually so this was a start. I didn't realise but I actually had the painted version of the Papa already so this is a cool raw variation.

My coworkers are really conservative. Thanks to that guy bending over the hood of a car in the Adults Only section I don't even dare do any smurfing at work.

To tell you the truth I didn't know which option was harder to explain I guess it would depend on whether the co-worker was male or female I suppose. This time it was male so I will go with the option I think.

I really need to fix up my image at work though as they do think I am STRANGE with capital letters right through.

And, of course, if your interest was in Napoleonic miniatures instead of smurfs, the perception they would have of you is that of an intellectual fellow of cultivated taste.

Though the bottom line is both are toys. The Napoleonic veneer just lets guys play with toys without being embarrassed about it...

Oh Andrew, you don't half get yourself into some squeaky situations!

They are cool raws and I am glad to hear they cleaned up good. At least with them unpainted you don't have to worry about the paint cracking when you are playing with them.

I haven't got internet access at work which is probably just as well really as I am sure I would get caught all the time.

On the other hand when adults hear that I also collect smurfs they look at me as though I need help. Could be worse, I could be a Barbie doll collector

In my opinion playing with toys helps you to stay young (could make some comments about the bedroom but better not )

Hey Tojo, if you're the picture taking sort, I'd enjoy seeing a picture of your Napoleon figures. I'm not extensively familiar with the era, but for awhile I was researching different sorts of uniforms. Do you have any lancers? Or those guys--I don't remember what they're called--but they wore Tunisian-style uniforms? (During the American civil war, we actually had some companies adopt that garb. There was even a lancer regiment, though they met a quick end).

Also, is your location "That would be telling" a quote from MacGoohan's The Prisoner television series?

Hi Drunksmurf,

I'll have to see if I can take a few photos of my army. So far I haven't got any lancers but maybe one day. I think by the 'Tunisian style uniforms' you're referring to are the Mamelukes which Napoleon brought back from his Egyptian campaign. I haven't got any of those either as they were part of Napoleon's imperial guard & my army's too small to need anything so illustrious.

I didn't take the quote from The Prisoner but that was a great series. I haven't watched that in years.
