I forgot to mention this but last weekend Mrs Dyar came home from her Mum's house with a smurf rubber (probably should call it an eraser since you guys may think I am talking in latex terms)......it was an old Smurf eraser that she had as a kid  that she found in one of her old boxes of junk. Of course she claims it is still hers (joking) but Jack took it seriously and won't let me keep it at the moment.....but I am thinking of trading him (slurpees/star wars men) for the eraser.

Who would of thought the anti-smurfer would actually have a smurf item :-?

Here's a pic...it's been used but I thought it was still pretty cool

PS - (Mrs Dyar reading over my shoulder says...) "It was NOT a box of junk"

Here are a couple of unused rubbers that I have found also a pencil case that I got when I was not much taller than a smurf. I also have a smurf maze ballberring game from the 1981/82 fifa world cup (whichever year it was) that I must hunt out.

the rubbers look a bit water damaged but thats just age. they are in wee book form and the rubber pushes out.
:D

Nice items there Daryl....I wish I was able to keep some of the smurfy stuff I had as a kid as they were pretty common here in Australia as they probably were in NZ. It's amazing that you have been able to keep your items in pretty good condition yet alone at all. That pencil case is really funny...I love the lunch money pocket.....of course the smurf money pocket must be the main bigger part of the pencil case. :)

The FIFA World Cup was in 1982 (every four years, this year once again in Germany, probably that's why they made the soccer Smurfs a few years ago already).
Nice items!

Aha 1982 I was just a smurfling.. arrgghhh those were the days <enter reminus mode>...When I was a smurfling (or lad to the unititiated) I wasn't aloud to use the pencil case.. its never had pencils or pens put in it even to this day. In this case it paid off. :-?
I do remember other merchandise from back then and I'm sure they will all resurface when the new movies hit the big screen. 8)
and yes I know what you mean about the big pouch for the money... The smurf medium of exchange is larger then the smurfs they buy!! never mind I not only never put pencils in that case, I also never used the pouch for lunch money :-S

Sad thing is when the smurf movie does come out the quality of items wont be like it was in the 80's. Things are not made to last anymore. I bet even if you had used the smurf pouch and put your pencils in it it would have survived this long, but with the stuff that is comeing out now adays you even look at it wrong and it breaks on you. They also come out with some very cheesy merchandise (can't think of anything off hand, but let me walk through the store and it's like.. what in the world where they thinking) Of course my mind will probably change when I see a smurf on something and think.."oh my smurf toilet paper.. how did I ever live without it!!!" Yes.. i'm sad!! :???:

That's why we love you Gerda......we don't need to try to influence you anymore in the ways of the smurf. :)

...and Attom, you may have a point but I think she wants the baby so this could be sending the wrong message. :)

What do you think about the quality of smurf toys themselves?

The newer supersmurfs seem to have vehicles and add-ons made of better plastic than the earlier supers. But, I remember reading complaints about the quality of the 2005 smurf paint jobs.

But, I guess you were speaking of non-toy accessories? I remember having "Trapper Keepers" when I was in elementary school (stupid paper binders with velcro folds). Those things tore up pretty quickly. But, yeah, today things seem worse--even our attitude. How many of us take it for granted you have to replace a computer every few years?

Oh Gerda, that made me laugh so much! :)

So funny, yet so true.
