hi!

I thought I'd pass on a good tip for a magnifying lens ( loop), which I

use a lot to read the copyright inscriptions on the bottom of smurfs,

its so handy for the little details that my eyes can't see,

and its also useful to help identify fakes, or smurfs that are repainted or

even stripped of their paint and made into rholings.

here is a sample on EBAY, there are many different brands and types

what is so great is that this little gadget is portable, and you can even take it to flea markets etc!

That looks great Attom, I can just see you examining all your smurfs carefully. :sherlock:

I bet you can see some real detail using that. :eye:

Here is the lamp / lense that I use.

It is getting even more useful as I go gracefully grey and my eyesight fails. :)

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

Hi Attom, yes I have to admit, it is very useful. I don't think the lense is as powerful as the jeweller lense type like yours but it it certainly give a very good close up to check things out. :D

Hi Attom,

These are nifty gadgets I use sometimes to check the sharpness of slides and negatives.

Personally I mostly use an old manual focus 50mm photo lens. If you look though these old lenses from the camera side you will notice that the glass lenses inside (can be up to 7 with a Leica but that is pricy of course) work as an incredible magnifier. Closing the aperture ring might just give you a better concentration on one area. You can find these old pentax or other cheapo brands lenses regularly at flea markets.

At home I enjoy playing with a front lens of an old copper lens (the heavy ones) which magnifies things so that they become scary :yikes:

Dennis.

hi Dennis!

sounds like you also love gadgets, like me, I think that old copper one sounds wonderful, and fun!

a great idea about that lens.. as I still have a couple of old film cameras

laying around!

thanks for the tips!

Sounds like this could be very handy in taking a closer look at some of those rohlings....I might have to invest in one down the track.

Well I am a a little more "primitive"...Because my "vision" is not too "developed" :rolling: :rolling: , I usually say to my sister:take this smurf, bring it near the light and tell me: what can you read here?
