Hi All,

When I was a kid I had a plastic smurf approx. 2 feet high that came with 6 different coloured small records. They could be played by inserting them into a panel that opened on his back.

At some point in time it must have been thrown away but I would love to know if there are still any out there in working order.

Has anybody ever seen what I've tried to describe (not very well perhaps :???: ) or maybe even owned one themselves.

I'm going back nearly 30 years and I don't know if they were only available in Uk or other places too.

Hi Flamingo, welcome aboard. :welcome:

Yes, I think I know the smurf you are talking about. I have the normal and Papa versions, you can see them in the pic below, standing either side of the larger Papa. :D

You can sometimes find these on Ebay in the UK, some work, some don't. They don't normally sell for too much so you might get lucky. I will try and keep a look out for you. :-D

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

I used to have one of those when I was a child back in the 70s..it's the only thing I had back then that I still haven't got now..I really would like another one, but I'd like one that worked and came with the records.
Long, long ago, deep in the forest, there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived. They called themselves the Smurfs. They were good.

I remember seeing this when I was at your house Rach....I think they look really cool as just a smurf and had no idea before you told me there that they were record players.

I want one too :) :)

Quick update on the record player smurfs. :D

I tried the Papa first of all as he looked to be in the best shape. Luckily we had the correct battery here but after putting the battery in and having a fiddle, nothing. I wasn't even really sure if I was doing it right but there was something rattling around inside so that wasn't a great sign. :???:

I then tried the Normal and was very suprised when as soon as I added the battary there was a strange werring sound. After pressing the button on the back, a very strange sound started. It took a while to work out as it first sounded like some wierd satanic chanting but once it settled down I could definitely tell it was the smurf song. Not the best rendition of that I have heard but still the smurf song...........

La la la la la la la la la la :))

Must also add, their noses squeak. :-D

yEs! Now that you mention it I'm sure the nose was made from a much softer material than the rest. In fact I think I used to be able to pull it off ( I was young :-? ).

Hi Attom, I found that as soon as I put a battery in it started, I couldn't find an on/off button anywhere. I tried a couple of different disks but I think it was the same tune which was a little odd as the disks are a different colour. I am sure I have more so I will have to check them out. :D
