Hello.

Had a new lot arrive today which I had bought for the Historical figures.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

However from reading around the forum a bit through the last few days I now think I also own a number of Spanish fakes.

Is it the case that any smurfs without any markings are always fakes ?
Have had a quick look through some of my collection and already see that my prisoner has no markings at all - I'm sure I also have others.

Also, are there any fakes that do have markings,? as I seem to also have some smurfs in a much more rubbery material.

Cheers.

id say that some of the fake have markings like for example the praying smurfs, some of them are fake and have markings.

The rubbery material is a good sign for a fake smurf.and I think that some of the licensed smurf has no markings.

Well done with this lot, some really nice smurfs like abe lincoln, paul revere, george washington ,christopher colombus and the tuxedo smurf(Hard one to get) :D :-D

Thanks Sam,

I was always a bit suspicious of my rubbery ones. I purchased about 30 of them recently and they were all very early models but arrived just far too pristine looking.

Have compared the Champion I received today with my original one and side by side the differences are obvious - just hard to spot on a photo.

Your right about Tuxedo, except I have been chasing it for months and not winning and suddenly I have 2 in 2 days - so one will have to go. I have a Prom smurfette arriving soon and ... :duel:

Hello Flaming0

The smurfs

20112 black saw
20102 with arrow
20120 diver
20058 with wreath
20030 with torch

look like comics to me, normaly they have a little golden sticker with say
comics no toxico. But those are very rare because they go of very easy.
The comics don't have any markings.

Am i right about those 5 smurfs, i bet no markings ????

Wow! Very impressed - you are spot on TinTin :cup: .

Only the archer still has the sticker on its foot. Hadn't spotted that the Olympic was one also - have just quickly retrieved him from my smurf bin :thanks2:

Hi Flamino, that is a very nice lot indeed. As already mentioned you have some very nice CNT fakes in there. I can guarantee if they had been sold seperately with the correct descriptions they would have gone for a much higher price.

To answer your question regarding fakes and markings, it is a tricky subject as there are many fakes with markings (as well as without). There have been several discussions about genuine smurfs without markings. There seem to be a few that are questionable because even though they have no markings, they do really seem to be genuine.

Here is a fairly recent thread on the subject: http://www.forum.bluecavern.com/viewtop ... s+markings

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

Wow TinTin,
you must have good eyes...How are you able to spot CNTs from the picture?

Actually, that's a serious question...After reading about them more and more lately I like them better and better and are seriously considering enriching my collection with some of them...But I have no idea how to spot them on a picture :-?

Hi, Maureen!!!!!!!!!I live in Spain but I have not lots of fakes...They are difficult to find them...Recently I have bought some of them on a spanish web of auctions and the prices were excellent...Let´s hope to have luck this weekend...I will travel to Madrid, where there is the only one fleamarket in Spain where I suppose I can find smurfs :fingers:

And about to spot them: well...I am not so experimented as Tintin is, but it can help to know that some of CNT show variations of colour differnt than licensed: example...the black saw of the carpenter, the orange mechanic, orange schneider...ANd the most important: to ask the seller if they have markings...I they have not...I think you are in the right way...

Hi Maureen

No i don't have good eyes i were glasses!!
But i like the comics to so.......
I can see by the color and shape that they ar comics.

20112 you can see he has a black saw, easy one !!
20102 the arrows are both red, normaly red and yellow
20120 diver you can see by the color of his swimming suite.
20030 that one is more diffecult, the handgrip of the torch is a little bigger
and the flame is more orange than yellow.
20058 i admitt that was a little gamble but i recognize comics normaly
by the color blue. The comics have all a nasty blue color.
and that one looked like one.

If you want to know more of them just ask or give me a pm.

Tintin

How are you able to spot CNTs from the picture?
What does CNT stand for? Is it Comic Non Toxico? And what are they?
